Gong Hyo-jin's return to MBC after 15 years, 'Married Killer'
Actress Gong Hyo-jin returns to MBC dramas after 15 years with 'Married Killer'. This project, a collaboration between director Yoon Jong-ho and writer Kim Eun-hee, is an action drama based on a webtoon.
The Double Life of a Working Mom Played by Gong Hyo-jin, 'Married Woman Killer'
Actress Gong Hyo-jin returns to MBC's living rooms after 15 years. The stage for her return is the new Friday-Saturday drama 'Married Woman Killer,' which is set to premiere on Friday, July 31, at 9:50 PM. Gong Hyo-jin takes on the role of Yoo Bo-na, a manager of Sales Team 3 at Durumi Electronics and a legendary sniper known as 'Kingfisher' who punishes criminals that the law failed to judge.
Yoo Bo-na is a character who returns to the world of killers after a three-year parental leave. The core of the drama is her double life, oscillating between the daily life of a mother with a husband and a four-year-old daughter and her life as a cold-blooded sniper. Gong Hyo-jin will showcase the same power that led the hit 'My Love from the Star' to a 21.0% viewership rating in 2011.
The original work is a popular Kakao Webtoon of the same name. It portrays the process of a working mom with the most brutal job in the world struggling to maintain her daily life and work-life balance through an action-packed story.
The Combination of Director Yoon Jong-ho and Writer Kim Eun-hee
The production lineup is also spectacular. Director Yoon Jong-ho, who took charge of directing, recently gained syndrome-level popularity by showcasing sensible visual beauty through 'Lovely Runner.' Joining him is writer Kim Eun-hee, who wrote 'Ghost Doctor' and 'Live Up to Your Name.' Based on her ability to create multi-dimensional characters and solid writing, Kim has constructed the narrative for this work.
The Conflicting Pursuit by the Media and the Police
The confrontation between the media and the police chasing the legendary sniper Kingfisher creates tension in the drama. The investigative reporting channel 'Not Today' team and the Southern Police Station's Violent Crimes Team 2 move in their own ways to uncover Kingfisher's identity.
Kwon Tae-seong (played by Jung Joon-won), a dedicated reporter for Not Today, is a person who roams the scene for a scoop. He had suspended his activities after chasing Kingfisher in the past due to a certain incident, but he begins to move again upon hearing the news of Kingfisher's return. Rookie reporter Gu Hae-na (played by Han Chae-rin) roams the field as Kwon Tae-seong's partner.
The Southern Police Station's Violent Crimes Team 2 conducts investigations within the boundaries of the law. Ace detective Lee Dong-jin (played by Lee Sang-yi) cannot understand why the public is enthusiastic about Kingfisher due to his past experience of feeling helpless during the Kingfisher case. He clings to the investigation with the goal of bringing Kingfisher to justice. The youngest detective, Beom Seong-hun (played by Choi Woo-sung), works as Lee Dong-jin's partner.
Conflicts Between Characters and Acting Ensemble
The drama unfolds as the energy of the reporters trying to uncover the truth clashes with the detectives who prioritize legal judgment. Jung Joon-won plays Kwon Tae-seong, a cold-headed reporter and a warm-hearted family man, while Lee Sang-yi plays Lee Dong-jin, who adheres to principles. Choi Woo-sung portrays the passionate Beom Seong-hun, and Han Chae-rin depicts the lively Gu Hae-na.
Sung Dong-il takes on the role of Kim Bong-pal, the manager of Durumi Electronics' Sales Team 3 and an expert in disguising accidental deaths. Kim Bong-pal is a veteran who usually considers his team members while possessing hidden depth. He silently helps Yoo Bo-na, who has returned as a killer after three years.
