ENHYPEN and Super Junior's Ryeowook join summer blood donation campaign relay
The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korean Red Cross are launching a blood donation relay campaign featuring ENHYPEN, Super Junior's Ryeowook, and others to stabilize the blood supply during the summer season.
Relay Campaign Kicks Off to Stabilize Blood Supply During Summer
A large-scale campaign is being launched to prepare for the period when blood donation participation typically decreases due to the combination of sweltering heat, the rainy season, and summer vacations. The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korean Red Cross Blood Services announced that they will conduct a relay campaign titled "A Rewarding Day Completed Through Blood Donation" from the 15th of this month until October. Currently, blood inventory levels are being maintained at a relatively stable level between 4.6 and 5.6 days' worth. However, the authorities plan to preemptively respond to the decrease in blood supply caused by seasonal factors and carry the positive energy of this campaign through the winter season.
This campaign will be conducted in a relay format where celebrities, public figures, and the general public directly participate in blood donation or deliver supportive messages through videos and photos. Beyond simple promotion, the goal is to spread the value of life-sharing throughout society.
Global Idols Including ENHYPEN and Super Junior's Ryeowook to Participate
The first phase of the relay campaign will run from July to September. The first participant is the Minister of Health and Welfare, Jung Eun-kyeong. Minister Jung plans to personally participate in blood donation and deliver a message of encouragement to promote donation. Following her, the globally popular idol group ENHYPEN and Super Junior's Ryeowuk, a blood donation ambassador, will sequentially join the relay.
The messages they deliver and their participation in blood donation will be released sequentially through the official social media (SNS) channels of the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korean Red Cross Blood Services. This is an attempt to connect the power of fandoms with the social value of life-sharing.
Second SNS Campaign Featuring the General Public to Begin in October
Once the celebrity-centered first campaign concludes, a second campaign centered on public participation will follow starting in October. This second campaign will be conducted primarily online. The method of participation is free: participants can post short-form videos on their personal SNS accounts capturing their feelings after donating blood, or their healthy lifestyle habits and exercise routines practiced for blood donation.
The Korean Red Cross Blood Services plans to provide advance notice in September and collect related content throughout the month of October. They intend to encourage voluntary participation by selecting excellent content from the submissions and providing appreciation gifts until the end of the year.
Efforts to Establish Blood Donation as an Everyday Culture
Regarding the purpose of this campaign, Minister of Health and Welfare Jung Eun-kyeong emphasized her hope that blood donation will become established as a healthy daily habit and a proud culture of our society. Furthermore, she requested the active interest and participation of the public to ensure that the blood supply remains stable during the summer.
This campaign distinguishes itself by proposing blood donation as a lifestyle rather than just a short-term remedy to prevent blood shortages. In particular, the participation of artists supported by the younger generation, such as ENHYPEN, is expected to play a role in lowering the psychological barrier to blood donation.
Cast and Participants
Minister of Health and Welfare Jung Eun-kyeong will open the campaign by personally donating blood as the first runner of the first relay. Following her, the global idol group ENHYPEN will participate. Super Junior's Ryeowuk, a blood donation ambassador, will also join the relay to spread the value of life-sharing.
Background and Context
A period is approaching when blood donation participation decreases as the sweltering heat, rainy season, summer vacations, and school breaks overlap. The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korean Red Cross planned this campaign to preemptively prevent the decrease in blood supply caused by these seasonal factors.
Currently, the blood inventory at supply centers is relatively stable, at a level of 4.6 to 5.6 days' worth. The policy is to maintain a stable blood supply system by sustaining the positive momentum secured through this campaign through the winter season.
