'Transformative Actor' Sho Kasamatsu from Japan Sets Sights on the Korean Market
Actor Sho Kasamatsu (born 1992), who has built a solid filmography while active in Japan for over 10 years, has signed an exclusive contract with the Korean management agency Star Platinum. Through this contract, he will 본격적으로 (fully) expand his activities on both domestic and global stages with Korea as his base. Han Hee-sung, CEO of Star Platinum, stated, “Sho Kasamatsu is an actor with solid acting skills, sincerity, and a heartfelt passion for Korean works. We will provide full support so that he can meet more audiences in Korea and on the world stage.”
Along with the news of the contract, Sho Kasamatsu released a handwritten letter in Korean. In the letter, he expressed his feelings, saying, “I grew up watching Korean works for a long time, so the fact that I can now work in Korea makes me incredibly happy. Whether it is Korea, Japan, or the US, I want to enjoy my activities just as I have done so far. I will always do my best and take on challenges, regardless of whether the role is big or small.”
Acting Skills Proven Through 'Good News' and 'Taxi Driver 3'
Sho Kasamatsu's Korean activities began with director Byun Sung-hyun's Netflix film 'Good News.' In this work, he delivered an impressive performance playing the role of 'Denji,' a leader of the Japanese Red Army. He then increased his public recognition by appearing as the first villain of Season 3 in the SBS drama 'Taxi Driver 3.' Notably, he showed an unusual trajectory for a foreign actor by being invited as a presenter for the 2025 SBS Drama Awards.
Self-Taught Korean and Global Project Trajectory
It is known that Sho Kasamatsu taught himself Korean through Korean movies and dramas. In Japan, he has been evaluated as a 'transformative actor' based on an acting spectrum that spans various genres. Since his debut in 2013, he has made his presence known to global OTT viewers through HBO Max's 'Tokyo Vice' and Disney+'s 'Gannibal.' Recently, he was cast in the Hollywood project 'Untitled Kyoto Project' directed by Takashi Miike, continuing his international activities alongside stars such as Charli XCX, Millie Alcock, and Norman Reedus.
