Ahn Jae-wook and Lee Hee-jun return with the musical 'Let Me Fly'
Ahn Jae-wook and Lee Hee-jun confirmed to star in the third season of the musical 'Let Me Fly'. Opening at Doosan Art Center in October 2026.
Ahn Jae-wook and Lee Hee-jun Return to the Stage After a 3-Year Wait
The musical 'Let Me Fly' is returning for its third season after approximately three years. Production company Pros Lab announced that the performances will run from October 6, 2026, to January 3, 2027, at the Doosan Art Center Yeonkang Hall in Seoul. The most notable feature of this season is the addition of heavyweight veteran actors. In particular, Ahn Jae-wook has decided to return to the stage after about three years. Fans are eager to see how he, who proved his acting prowess by winning a Grand Prize last year following a hit drama, will portray the elderly Nam-won in this production.
The move of actor Lee Hee-jun also draws attention. He is returning to the musical stage for the first time in about 14 years. Lee Hee-jun, who has shown an unrivaled presence across various media, will take on the role of 'elderly Nam-won' to anchor the play. As he must express the agony and daily life of Nam-won, who becomes a 70-year-old man due to a sudden time travel, the joining of these two actors is expected to add even more depth to the work.
A Meeting of Existing Hitmakers and Newcomers Who Survived a 200:1 Competition
It is not just new faces. Many existing actors who have maintained the identity of the work are returning, forming a solid core. Ahn Ji-hwan and Na Ha-na, who have been part of the entire journey from the development stage in 2019 to the 2023 season and domestic and international tours, will continue their consistent chemistry as the young Nam-won and Jeong-bun. As 'artisans' who have been with the work from beginning to end, they will serve as the central axis of the play in this season as well.
This season chose the direct approach of an open audition to inject fresh vitality. Numerous applicants flocked to the audition held last December, and among them, Yoon Jae-ho, Lee Su-bin, and Park Seul-gi were finally selected after overcoming a fierce competition rate of 200 to 1. They are set to take the stage as the young Nam-won and Jeong-bun, harmonizing with the existing actors. Skilled actor Yoon So-ho also joined the lineup as the young Nam-won, enhancing the completeness of the cast.
A Time-Travel Farce: The Power of a Creative Musical Noticed by the World
The musical 'Let Me Fly' tells the story of what happens when Nam-won, who has become a 70-year-old grandfather due to the influence of radio frequencies on a night when the full moon shone brightly in 1969, begins an exploration of the future to return to the past. During its approximately 120-minute running time, it is a farce that delightfully and warmly unravels the meaning of life, love, and choices amidst the process of past, present, and future intertwining. Recognized for its artistic quality by critics and audiences, this work is evaluated as a successful model that started on a small theater stage and expanded into the global market.
The achievements of the work are proven by numbers and records. Following the 2023 Seoul performance, it successfully completed a tour of 10 cities in Korea, and in Taiwan, it held both replica license performances and original team tours. In 2025, it participated in the 'K-Musical Roadshow' on Broadway in New York to showcase the work to English-speaking industry professionals, and in November of the same year, it completed a Hong Kong tour at the invitation of the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong. The data accumulated while moving across domestic and international stages is expected to serve as the foundation for this third season.
Detailed Character Casting Filled with a Complete Lineup
Looking at the lineup by role, the harmony between veterans and newcomers becomes even clearer. Oh Ui-sik and Kim Ji-hyun, who showed perfect marital chemistry since the premiere, rejoin as 'Seon-hee,' the reliable companion by elderly Nam-won's side. Additionally, Yoon Kong-ju, who completed the lovely Seon-hee in the previous season, joins to broaden the spectrum of the Seon-hee role. Actor Bae Hae-sun is also expected to bring a new breeze to the role of Seon-hee by returning to the stage this season.
Existing protagonists from previous seasons, Lee Hyung-hoon and Hong Ji-hee, will appear as elderly Nam-won and Jeong-bun, respectively, adding depth to the play. This season, completed through the writing and composition of Cho Min-hyung, arrangement by Min Chan-hong, and planning/production by Pros Lab, has taken a strategy to target both the existing fandom and new audiences simultaneously. This performance, which opens on October 6, 2026, at the Doosan Art Center Yeonkang Hall, will meet audiences until January 3, 2027.
