Trot singers sing of the joys and sorrows of life through their unique voices. A video released by TV CHOSUN MUSIC features a series of performances by the singers nominated for the trot male popularity award.
Singing of the pain of loss and the passage of time
Kim Yong-bin opened the stage. Through "Even If Swayed by the Wind and Soaked by the Rain," Kim Yong-bin expressed longing for a past love. Singing of how past days felt like dreams and how love is futile, he expressed a sense of loss, closing his eyes to convey that there is no way to hold the hand of the person who is supposedly still by his side. He captured a heart swaying in the wind and a heart seeking to be soaked by the rain, putting the vanished love and distant memories into his song.
Park Seo-jin followed, taking the stage to sing "Don't Ask Me." Park Seo-jin sang of the flow of passing years and the sorrow felt within that passage. He used lyrics to express the sorrow of years passing where the numbers continue to climb even though his youthful days are gone, and the desire to hold onto a youth that is setting like the sun over the western mountains. Along with an appeal not to ask, he contained regret regarding a youth that cannot be held and years that remain only as numbers.
A man's life and the sentiment of a nostalgic hometown
Jin Hae-seong revealed the weight of life through "A Man's Life." Described as a song sung on the way home at sunset, it sang of the weary daily life of thinking of a can of beer after work or returning home by bus. He delivered the life of a man who goes home exhausted after commuting to and from work in a calm yet heavy manner.
Son Bin-ah sang of longing through "You Said Your Hometown Was in the South." He sang of the yearning for a person who stayed in the heart before leaving. He connected the tender feeling of not knowing whether that person left Seoul or where they went—no matter who one asks—to the sentiment of the hometown being in the south. He sang of the longing for that person who once stayed in the heart but whose whereabouts are now unknown.
Finally, Ahn Sung-hoon presented "At the Crossroads." Stopping at a crossroads in front of a red light, he sang of the moment of parting, saying goodbye and stating that one must go this way. He brought the stage to a close with lyrics asking why it feels so sorrowful despite knowing that the heart must let go.
