Kim Junsu's agency responds to controversy over outsourced PD's coin theft
As an outsourced PD from Kim Junsu's agency, PalmTree, has been indicted on charges of fraud and theft, a dispute over responsibility is breaking out between the victim and the agency.
Outsourced Producer 'A' Accused of Virtual Asset Theft and Fraud
Outsourced producer 'A' of Palm Tree Island (hereinafter referred to as Palm Tree), where singer Kim Junsu serves as CEO, has been taken to trial on charges of fraud and theft. Hwang Yu-bin, CEO of XYNC, who claims to be the victim, stated that virtual assets worth tens of millions of won were stolen during a song camp hosted by A.
The incident occurred in June last year. At the time, affiliated lyricists submitted lyric drafts and attended a song camp hosted by A, but on the day of the camp, A allegedly stole CEO Hwang's mobile phone, accessed a virtual asset exchange, and stole funds worth tens of millions of won. Currently, A has been forwarded to the prosecution on these charges and is awaiting trial.
Victim's Side: "Responsibility Cannot Be Avoided as Album Results Were Utilized"
XYNC CEO Hwang Yu-bin expressed strong dissatisfaction with Palm Tree's response. In May, CEO Hwang sent a certification of contents to Palm Tree, demanding an official position regarding A's work format, disciplinary actions, and compensation for damages.
CEO Hwang urged the agency to take a responsible stance, stating, "It is difficult to understand how they can claim to have no connection when they employed someone who was forwarded to the prosecution for fraud and theft and released an album using the results of their work." He emphasized that he suffered direct financial damage due to the crime that occurred during the song camp hosted by A.
Palm Tree's Side: "No Involvement in Song Camp Operations; Personal Crime is Unrelated to Artists"
On the other hand, Palm Tree clarified that this incident is a personal criminal matter that cannot be linked to the artists. While it is true that A worked as an outsourced producer, the company maintains that the crime committed is a personal matter and is unrelated to the company or its affiliated artists.
In particular, Palm Tree made it clear that they were not involved in any part of the planning, operation, recruitment, or execution of the song camp hosted by A. They also added that the work claimed by the victim's side was not reflected in the album.
Termination of Collaboration and Review of Legal Action After Becoming Aware of the Incident
Palm Tree stated that they became aware of the incident through the certification of contents sent by CEO Hwang in May. After becoming aware of the case and verifying the facts, the agency immediately terminated all collaborations with A, and currently, A is not involved in any of the agency's business.
