"Why didn't you bring them sooner?" The production team reacts to the appearance of Choo Shin-soo and Park Min-seo
Little baseball prodigy Park Min-seo appeared at the Channel A 'Baseball Queen 2' tryouts, surprising the coaching staff by showcasing a fastball of 110 km/h and home-run-caliber hitting.
"My identity is baseball" – The confession of golfer Park Min-seo
Park Min-seo, a former little league baseball prodigy, appeared at the Channel A 'Baseball Queen Season 2' tryouts, surprising the coaching staff. The first episode, aired on July 9, depicted the full-scale player selection process to strengthen the Black Queens' roster.
Appearing in Group 4 of the tryouts, Park Min-seo is a figure who held the record for the youngest female player to hit a home run while playing as the only female player in the Seongdong-gu Little League team. She trained alongside male players in the little league until her third year of middle school. After entering high school, she continued practicing alone as there was no team, eventually switching to golf, but she still felt a lingering thirst for baseball.
Park Min-seo confessed, "To be honest, I think about baseball at least once a day." She also shared her inner feelings, saying that even during golf tournaments, if she saw a baseball field, she would get off to play catch to soothe her heart. She added, "I feel like my identity is more tied to baseball. I want to do what I am good at."
'Overwhelming pitching and hitting' that stunned coaches Choo Shin-soo, Lee Dae-hyeong, and Yoon Suk-min
Park Min-seo's skills exceeded the expectations of the on-site coaching staff. The control she showed during the pitching test and her velocity reaching 110 km/h signaled the birth of a new ace for the Black Queens. After watching Park's throwing, coach Lee Dae-hyeong praised her, saying, "We can stop watching now."
Upon seeing her hitting skills, Manager Choo Shin-soo gasped and shouted, "Jackpot!" Seeing a hit that would have been a home run in an outdoor stadium, coach Lee Dae-hyeong remarked, "The era of Song-ah is now over."
The Black Queens' ace, Song-ah, stepped into the batter's box to face Park Min-seo's pitch. Entering with the determination that "I won't strike out," Song-ah swung and missed at Park's fast pitch, resulting in a strikeout. After the game, Song-ah expressed her amazement at Park's pitching power, saying, "It's really fast." Having witnessed the overwhelming performance, Manager Choo Shin-soo spoke to the production crew with a hint of reproach, asking, "I asked you to bring her during Season 1 last year, so where have you been keeping her until now?"
Tryout scene featuring a large number of elite athletes
Various elite athletes from different sports appeared at this tryout. Among the applicants in Group 1, former fencers were followed by taekwondo, soccer, and handball players. Notably, Yoon Ji-su, an icon of Korean women's fencing who led the country to two consecutive Asian Games gold medals, was also present at the tryout site.
Upon the appearance of a handball player, the coaching staff expressed high expectations for her performance in baseball, noting, "She must be confident in throwing."
Black Queens' strategy for reinforcement: "Prioritize players with good defense"
The Black Queens, South Korea's 50th women's baseball team, aims to strengthen their roster through this tryout. Led by Manager Choo Shin-soo, the coaching staff including Lee Dae-hyeong and Yoon Suk-min focused on finding the right people to fill the team's vulnerable positions. Coach Yoon Suk-min cited defense as the key criterion for player selection.
Coach Yoon Suk-min stated, "Even if hitting is lacking, I want to pick a player with good defense." The positions currently most lacking in the Black Queens are third base, catcher, and left field. Yoon explained that he would focus on observing those positions. Manager Choo Shin-soo also signaled the acquisition of pitching resources as he prepares to build a solid roster.
