As viewership ratings hit 22.3%, Yoon Kyung-ho enters 13 hours of silent meditation
Actor Yoon Kyung-ho, starring in 'Manager Kim' which surpassed a 22.3% viewership rating, is fulfilling his promise of a 13-hour vow of silence. He will maintain his silence even during radio shows and fan signing events.
"I will undertake this with my conscience and without falsehood" – Yoon Kyung-ho's 13-hour declaration
Actor Yoon Kyung-ho has shut his mouth. As the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Mr. Kim' continues its unexpected surge in viewership ratings, he is officially fulfilling the '13-hour silent retreat' pledge he made at last month's production presentation.
On the morning of the 13th, Yoon Kyung-ho posted a video on his social media with the caption, "I started my silent retreat at 7:00 AM today." In the video, placing his hand on his chest, he declared, "I, Yoon Kyung-ho, with a grateful heart, will undertake this silent retreat according to my conscience without a single lie." He began the 13-hour countdown, promising to faithfully perform the retreat in every moment, including private spaces like the shower or bathroom where cameras cannot follow.
This unusual promise began at the production presentation for 'Mr. Kim' held last month. At the time, Yoon expressed his hope that if the ratings exceeded 13%, a second season would be produced, especially since this is the project marking So Ji-sub's return to SBS after 13 years. When actor Joo Sang-wook suggested a silent retreat, Yoon immediately promised, "If we break through 13% and my schedule allows, I will undergo a 13-hour silent retreat."
The pledge becomes reality as ratings break the 'magic 20%' mark
The upward trend of 'Mr. Kim's' ratings is steep. Starting with a 9.5% rating for the first episode according to Nielsen Korea nationwide, the drama recorded 15.7% by the second episode, surpassing the 13% threshold of his pledge. The third episode recorded 18.8%, and the fourth episode hit 21.6%, instantly breaking through the 20% mark.
The most recently aired 6th episode recorded 22.3%, breaking its own record. This figure surpasses 'The Fiery Priest' (22.0%) and 'Taxi Driver 2' (21.8%), ranking as the second-highest viewership rating in the history of SBS Friday-Saturday dramas, following 'Penthouse 2' (29.2%).
A silent journey continuing from live radio to a Mok-dong fan signing event
Yoon Kyung-ho's silence will not stop at social media verification. On the afternoon of the 13th, he will appear on the live SBS Power FM program 'Cultwo Show.' Usually loved for his witty remarks in variety shows and YouTube content, he must communicate solely through gestures and writing without saying a single word in the radio studio.
At 4:00 PM, immediately after the radio broadcast, a fan signing event will be held at the SBS Broadcasting Center in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. While fans can speak freely at the signing event, the rule applies that the protagonist, Yoon Kyung-ho, cannot open his mouth under any circumstances.
'Mr. Kim,' based on the popular webtoon of the same name, is an action drama depicting a father's revenge story as he becomes the most dangerous man to recover his only daughter. Yoon Kyung-ho plays the role of Park Jin-cheol, a former secret agent once called the 'God of the Battlefield' who is now a father who only cares about his daughter. Starring So Ji-sub, Choi Dae-hoon, Joo Sang-wook, Son Na-eun, and Kim Sung-kyu, this 10-episode series has reached its midpoint and airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM.
