Special guest Lim Ho joins to add more weight to the show. Actor Lim Ho, who demonstrated royal charisma as King Sukjong in the 1995 hit 'Jang Hee-bin', reenacted a scene of administering poison. He overwhelmed the atmosphere on set by solemnly delivering the line, "Pour another bowl."
Upon Lim Ho's appearance, Choi Tae-sung expressed high expectations for his deep knowledge of royal cuisine, saying, "Since he was a king, he must have eaten many wonderful things." Choi Tae-sung, "I see why the three of them are getting paid"... A new challenge for historical variety shows
At a press conference held on the 14th at a studio in Guro-gu, Seoul, the cast members expressed their affection for the program. 'Big Star Teacher' Choi Tae-sung took on the role of a scholar from the Hall of Worthies, delivering historical stories embedded in food. He introduced the show, saying, "The title itself piques curiosity. Just as people are curious about the dining tables of chaebols, this program allows us to look into the dining tables of kings and learn about the historical background."
Choi Tae-sung, who had previously declined invitations to variety shows, decided to appear because he felt confident that he could deliver history more closely and enjoyably alongside Shin Ki-ru, Yang Sang-guk, and Ji Ye-eun. He shared his concerns about the cast, saying, "There is a commonality when meeting celebrities. It seems difficult for them to speak about history verbally. So, I had great worries about these three."
However, Choi's worries quickly turned into admiration. He mentioned Yang Sang-guk's unexpected side, saying, "I am surprised when they come up with answers I didn't expect. Especially Yang Sang-guk, he has a lot of knowledge." He added, "From an ordinary person's perspective, I wondered why they were being paid like that, but seeing such fun reactions, I understood. I could see why the three of them are receiving appearance fees."
From Court Lady Shin Ki-ru to Eunuch Yang Sang-guk, the cast immerses themselves in their roles
Shin Ki-ru, playing the role of a court lady, said, "This is the only program I've done that hasn't had any malicious article headlines. I wanted to gain public appeal by participating in an educational program." She also expressed caution regarding historical distortion, stating, "I am careful because history must not be distorted. I think I could fall into ruin if I say something wrong, so I am being cautious with words regarding history."
As a palace maid, Ji Ye-eun openly expresses her curiosity about food and history. Ji said, "I don't have time or energy to study, but through this program, I can learn while eating and gain historical knowledge by answering quizzes." She added, "If it were just me, I might have hesitated, but since Shin Ki-ru unnie also doesn't know much and is similar, I felt a sense of kinship. I liked that I could speak freely."
Yang Sang-guk, playing the role of a eunuch, shows an unexpected side as a history enthusiast. He stated, "I don't know history well, but I was interested. It was great to taste the food that kings ate," and expressed his determination, saying, "Even if I sweat profusely, I won't utter a single complaint. Since I've been given this opportunity after a long time, I plan to do my best."
