The 'New Recruit' series, which continues the lineage of hyper-realistic military comedy, returns with its fourth story. 'New Recruit 4: Sabotage' will premiere on August 24 at 10 PM via ENA. This season will depict a more dynamic second half of military life, centering on Corporal Park Min-suk (played by Kim Min-ho), who is deeply troubled by his rising rank, alongside the return of Choi Il-gu (played by Nam Tae-woo) as a Sergeant, a mysterious new recruit whose identity is unknown, and the appearance of a battalion commander who will bring a new wave of impact to the unit.
The Clash Between Corporal Park Min-suk and the Mystery Recruit
On the 23rd, the production team simultaneously released a teaser poster and the first teaser video, offering a glimpse into the atmosphere of the work. The released video captures the unchanging appearance of Park Min-suk, who has somehow become a corporal, and the surprising actions of Seong Yun-mo (played by Kim Hyeon-gyu) captured in the administrative office, drawing laughter. In particular, new characters breathe life into the existing lineup this season. Lee Won-jeong takes on the role of Kim Hyeon-uk, an ace recruit harboring a secret, adding tension to the drama, while Lee Hyun-gyun joins as the battalion commander Byeon Hyeok-jin, who holds the command baton and sends sharp glances, anchoring the center of the story.
The composition of the unit members has also become more solid. Barracks 1 is composed of Kim Yo Han (as Moon Bit-na-ri), Lee Chung-gu (as Kim Sang-hun), and Jeon Seung-hun (as Im Da-hye), while Barracks 3 is led by Kim Dong-jun (as Jeon Se-gye), Lee Jung Hyun (as Kang Chan-seok), and Jang Seong-beom (as Kim Dong-woo). Additionally, Kim Hee-su (as Choi Byeong-nam), No Seong-eun (as Ji Jeong-min), and Kang Hyo-seung (as Cha Byeong-ho) join to deliver comedic performances. The officer lineup is centered around Oh Dae-hwan (as Company Commander Cho Baek-ho) and Nam Tae-woo (as Sergeant Choi Il-gu), while Lee Su-ji will appear as Park Min-suk's older sister, Park Min-ju, adding fun to the drama. A large number of characters with unique personalities are cast, including Lee Sang-jin, Oh Yong, Nam Min-woo (as Oh Seok-jin, Park Jae-su, and Lim Sung-min), as well as Kim Hyeon-gyu and Cho Jin-se (as Seong Yun-mo and No Hee-jeong).
The Reunion of Director Min Jin Gi and Cho Je-uk, and Writers Yoon Gi-young and Kim Dan
This season draws attention from the production stage due to the joining of a solid production team. Director Min Jin Gi, who knows the flow of Season 1 well, has reunited with writer Yoon Gi-young, and writer Kim Dan, who worked on Season 1, has joined to increase the completeness of the script. Min Jin Gi and Cho Je-uk are in charge of directing, planned by KT Studio Genie and produced by Story Island. The 'New Recruit' series has gained empathy from viewers every season by realistically depicting episodes that occur when a 'military-privileged' recruit enlists.
The production team explained that due to the appearance of a new battalion commander above and the joining of a recruit whose true intentions are unknown below, the members, including the now-senior Park Min-suk, will write an unpredictable second half of military life. The teaser poster, with the phrase 'The Appearance of the Final Boss,' captures the dignified appearance of the Shinhwa Unit members, preparing to leave a strong impression on both existing fans and new viewers.
Shinhwa Unit Lineup Achieving Harmony Between Old and New
The lineup of unit members has also become more abundant. Kim Hee-su (as Choi Byeong-nam), No Seong-eun (as Ji Jeong-min), and Kang Hyo-seung (as Cha Byeong-ho) join to add laughter.
The officer lineup and administrative office characters are also heavily populated. Oh Dae-hwan takes the role of Company Commander Cho Baek-ho, and Lee Sang-jin, Oh Yong, and Nam Min-woo appear as Oh Seok-jin, Park Jae-su, and Lim Sung-min, respectively. Kim Hyeon-gyu as Seong Yun-mo and Cho Jin-se as No Hee-jeong add fun.
