Ahn Seong-hoon expresses heartfelt gratitude to Young-gi for providing him a place to stay during his unknown years
Singer Ahn Seong-hoon revealed his past connection with Young-gi during his unknown days, his trip to Daehoenggan Island in Yeosu, and his love for kongguksu (cold soybean noodles) on MBN's AltoRan.
Singer Ahn Seong-hoon revealed his deep bond with fellow singer Young-gi, who stood by him during his difficult years of obscurity. On the MBN show 'AltoRan' aired on the 26th, Ahn Seong-hoon and culinary researcher Jung Mi-kyung appeared to share stories about summer dishes that stimulate the appetite and discuss their daily lives.
During the broadcast, Ahn shared an anecdote from his early days in Seoul when he had nowhere to stay, noting that Young-gi was the first to reach out and offer him a place to live. Emphasizing that their relationship goes beyond mere colleagues to that of brothers, Ahn said, "He took me in when I had no place to live after moving to Seoul." Through this episode, the two also shared stories from a healing trip they took to Daehoenggan Island in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do.
"Do that for your mother at home," a mother's realistic advice
Having naturally learned to cook under his mother, who runs a restaurant, Ahn Seong-hoon drew attention in a previous broadcast for his impressive wok skills. He expressed pride in hearing reviews from fans who enjoyed dishes made using his recipes. However, his mother's reaction was different. Ahn brought laughter to the studio by saying, "After watching the broadcast, my mother told me not to just cook like that for others, but to do it for her at home." He added that he plans to cook a meal for her soon.
His extraordinary love for noodles was also a topic of conversation. Ahn cited "noodle stamina boosting" as his personal secret to managing his energy during the summer. He showed his passion for soy milk noodles, noting that he makes sure to eat dishes like black bean noodles or buckwheat soy milk noodles two to three times a week. In this episode, culinary researcher Jung Mi-kyung shared a super simple recipe for 'Chicken Breast Chogyenamyeon' (cold chicken noodles) using chicken breast, mustard, vinegar, and sugar for noodle lovers like Ahn.
A feast of seasonal seafood from Daehoenggan Island, Yeosu
Ahn expressed his gratitude, noting that thanks to this appearance, he was able to take a summer vacation in Yeosu, something he couldn't do last year. On Daehoenggan Island in Yeosu, which he visited with Young-gi, they encountered breathtaking rocky cliffs and the flavors of the sea. The two even took a boat out to check anchovy fishing nets. The nets, in an area once so abundant it was called "Anchovy Island," were filled with cuttlefish, conger eels, octopus, and small octopus.
On-site, Ahn drew laughter when he mistakenly misheard the word 'octopus' (muneo) as 'bite' (mureo) and hurriedly pulled his hand away. The table, set with seafood freshly caught at the pier, featured Yeosu's seasonal specialties such as sliced cuttlefish, boiled octopus, and sea urchin roe seasoned with seaweed. Ahn once again proved his culinary skills in the studio by preparing anchovy bibim-guksu (spicy mixed noodles). Meanwhile, the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo is scheduled to open this coming September.
