The choreography practice scene conducted by singer WONHO ahead of the music video shoot for his new song 'Don't Wake Me Up' has been revealed. This practice was filled with the process of adjusting the song's composition and the details of the choreography to increase perfection.
"Grotesqueness rather than simplicity"... contemplating the direction of the choreography
During the practice process, WONHO and officials discussed specific movements to increase the 'impact' of the choreography. In particular, regarding the movements in the introduction, they were seen contemplating a unique composition that could bring out the atmosphere of the song, moving beyond simple group dance forms. WONHO emphasized, "If I only try to do it coolly, it might actually not work," adding that it "must be a bit grotesque" to match the concept of the song. This is interpreted as an intention to not simply show clean movements, but to fill the color of the song with facial expressions and acting.
Detailed feedback was also exchanged regarding the point movements of the choreography. The importance of the 'Up' movement before striking the hand down in certain parts was mentioned, and it was emphasized that even if the movements are fast, a clear sense of action is necessary. Additionally, in sections moving together with dancers, discussions continued regarding movement lines and facial expressions that can provide visual impact as the number of people increases.
"My body won't listen" facing limits with high-difficulty performance
As the intensity of the song's performance increased, the practice process was not smooth. WONHO honestly revealed the physical limits he feels while handling high-difficulty choreography, saying, "It is the first time my body won't listen to me and I feel lethargic." In particular, after performing a certain section of the choreography, the high-intensity movements continued to the point where he mentioned, "I don't think my legs can hold up."
The difficulty of the practice was also directly linked to the composition of the song. WONHO conveyed the difficulty of the choreography, saying, "There were so many sections where the (choreography) breaks that I haven't even tried dancing it from beginning to end after working on it." As the song was designed with the goal of showing an unexpected picture through its atmosphere, the intensity of the performance and the unfamiliarity of the movements added weight to the practice.
Final check ahead of music video filming
This practice took on the character of a final intensive check conducted a few days before the music video filming. WONHO solidified his attitude toward practice, saying, "I must do my best every moment as if it is the last practice before filming the music video." The process of increasing the perfection of the choreography while breathing in sync with the dancers was repeated.
Special settings to increase the perfection of the choreography were also announced for the music video filming site. It was mentioned during the practice process that a 'water spraying scene' utilizing a water truck will be included in the final scene, suggesting that the music video for this new song will contain visually intense directing.
