Just Like 10 Years Ago, the 'Goblin' Cast Embarks on a Trip Down Memory Lane to Gangneung
The drama 'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God' (hereafter referred to as 'Goblin') has marked its 10th anniversary. In the second episode of tvN's 20th-anniversary edition 'Shining Because We Are Together - Goblin 10th Anniversary Trip (Directed by Hwang Da-won)' aired on the 5th, the main stars Gong Yoo, Lee Dong-wook, Kim Go-eun, and Yoo In-na traveled to Gangneung to look back on their time together.
The 'Goblin House' in Jumunjin, Gangneung, where the actors stayed for two days and one night, was a setting that seemed to perfectly recreate the drama's universe. From the 'red door' that connected Quebec and Korea to 19-year-old Eun-tak's school uniform and exam permit, the Grim Reaper's ledger, and Sunny's jade ring, various items were placed throughout the space.
Lee Dong-wook brought out the Grim Reaper costume set that he had cherished for 10 years, and Yoo In-na showed her special affection by revealing the script signed by all the cast members. Kim Go-eun and Yoo In-na lightened the mood by walking a runway in the yard wearing their "afterlife work outfits."
The broadcast recorded an average viewership rating of 3.6% and a peak of 4.9% in the Seoul metropolitan area. In the 2049 viewership rating, which is tvN's core target, it ranked first in its time slot among all cable and general programming channels.
"It feels like my own story" Gong Yoo's sincere support and 'Chef Gong's' party preparations
While preparing for the party, Gong Yoo mentioned actor Yoon Kyung-ho, who has recently been enjoying great success. Gong Yoo expressed deep affection for his colleague, saying, "He is one year younger than me. I've been rooting for him continuously, and I feel so good that he's doing well. It didn't feel like someone else's story."
With a 'Power J' (judicious/planned) personality, Gong Yoo took the lead in the meal preparations. He personally cooked pork rib kimchi stew and transformed into 'Chef Gong' to prepare a barbecue for whole pork belly grilling.
Lee Dong-wook and Yoo In-na showed their 'Peach Couple' chemistry, bickering like a real-life married couple while lighting the charcoal. Kim Go-eun received praise for helping Yoo In-na season the cucumber salad.
Drawing on her experience of having recorded the navigation voice for the drama in the past, Yoo In-na provided a real-life narration while moving to the mart. In response, Gong Yoo shared an anecdote about how he heard Yoo In-na's voice while traveling in Jeju Island and reached out to her.
Kim Byung-chul, Lee El, and Park Kyung-hye join... A 'Perfect Reunion' from villains to the virgin ghost
The excitement of the 10th-anniversary party reached its peak as special guests joined in. Kim Byung-chul, the ultimate villain of the drama and the protagonist of the famous 'catastrophe meme,' appeared along with Lee El, who played Samshin Halmae (the Goddess of Fate), and Park Kyung-hye, who played the virgin ghost.
Kim Byung-chul appeared holding the sword that symbolizes Kim Shin from the drama, and Park Kyung-hye appeared wearing the exact same outfit as the virgin ghost from the drama. Seeing Kim Byung-chul showing a warm impression and witty conversation, unlike his villainous character, the actors expressed their overwhelming emotions at the reunion after 10 years, saying, "You look exactly the same as back then," and "It's so amazing to be here like this."
Lee El shared behind-the-scenes stories of how she struggled for hours for her Samshin Halmae makeup. Additionally, Lee El expressed her sincerity to her same-age friend Yoo In-na, saying, "Thank you for treating me warmly." Kim Byung-chul recalled the time when he used food coloring for makeup to achieve black lips and tongue.
At a table set with the whole pork belly and pork rib kimchi stew prepared by Gong Yoo and the cucumber salad by Yoo In-na, the actors continued their 'mukbang' (eating show). Tasting the food, Kim Go-eun exclaimed, "This is so delicious! It's crazy."
