Lee Seung-chul says "most sexy" regarding Sung Si-kyung's duet in 'Malikkot'
Lee Seung-chul and Sung Si-kyung performed a duet of 'Malikkot' (Flower of Mali) on KBS2 'The Seasons'. From their first meeting 25 years ago to the behind-the-scenes story of their song selection, everything was revealed.
The Thrill of 'Malikkot' Reunited with the 'Prince' Sung Si-kyung from 25 Years Ago
Lee Seung-chul, celebrating his 40th debut anniversary, completed an all-time legendary duet stage with his junior, Sung Si-kyung. Appearing as a guest on KBS 2TV's 'The Seasons - Sung Si-kyung's Ear-Friendly Boyfriend' broadcast at 11:30 PM on July 10, Lee Seung-chul performed live stages alongside Sung Si-kyung, Choi Yu-ree, Kim Dae-myung, and LUCY.
The highlight of the night was 'Malikkot,' performed by Lee Seung-chul and Sung Si-kyung. As the orchestral melody flowed, applause and cheers erupted from the audience. Lee Seung-chul showed a shy reaction, saying, "It's nothing special..." The two overwhelmed the stage by harmonizing explosive vocal power with sweet, melodic tones amidst the grand orchestration.
After finishing the stage, Lee Seung-chul expressed admiration for Sung Si-kyung's voice. He remarked, "That was the sexiest 'Malikkot' I've ever heard." He especially praised Sung Si-kyung's vocal finishing, calling him a "complete ballad emperor."
Behind their perfect chemistry lay a behind-the-scenes story regarding the song selection. Lee Seung-chul revealed that he had originally chosen 'My Love' as a song that would suit Sung Si-kyung. However, the selection changed because Sung Si-kyung insisted on 'Malikkot,' claiming 'My Love' was too weak. Sung Si-kyung explained, "While 'My Love' fits better, I thought it was more important for my senior to shine so that the viewers would enjoy it, rather than me being the center of attention." He added, "'Malikkot' is too high for me. I usually sing it three keys lower," and "I could sing this song even three times a day."
"The Prince Who Appeared on a White Horse" Memories of Their First Meeting 25 Years Ago
Lee Seung-chul recalled his memories from 25 years ago while thinking of Sung Si-kyung's first impression. He reminisced about the moment he first saw Sung Si-kyung appearing on a program called 'Love Request.' At the time, Sung Si-kyung was remembered for appearing on a white horse and making donations by placing envelopes.
Looking back, Lee Seung-chul said, "Back then, Sung Si-kyung was tall and looked like a real prince. He had a great academic background and didn't look like a typical singer. That's why I watched him closely to see what he would do." Sung Si-kyung, now in his 26th year since debut, replied to his senior's reminiscence, "I don't remember it exactly." Mentioning Sung Si-kyung's journey over the past 25 years, Lee Seung-chul remarked, "I think he is at his best right now."
