Lee Jang-won develops 'Hallim Bell' for 100-year-old grandfather
Lee Jang-won's daily life, featuring the 'Hallim Bell' remote call bell he made himself and living together with his 100-year-old grandfather, has been revealed.
Singer Lee Jang-won and Bae Da-hae, a couple in their sixth year of marriage, revealed their daily life living with a 100-year-old great-grandfather. In the SBS 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 – You Are My Destiny' broadcast on the 21st, Lee Jang-won displayed his wit as a KAIST alumnus by personally creating a customized calling bell for his grandfather.
The two are currently living as tenants in Lee Jang-won's grandfather's house, sharing a roof with his grandfather, who is remarkably healthy for his age of 100. The couple, Lee Jang-won and Bae Da-hae, has been living together with the grandfather for about five months.
A KAIST Talent's Way of Filial Piety: The Self-Made 'Hal-lim Bell'
Due to the house layout, the rooms are located at opposite ends, so Lee Jang-won took it upon himself to invent a solution for the situation where his grandfather would have to call out loudly to reach him. He manufactured a remote calling bell for his grandfather, naming it 'Hal-lim Bell,' an abbreviation for 'Grandfather's Notification Bell.'
After completing the device alone in his room, Lee Jang-won installed a dedicated application on his grandfather's smartphone and explained how to use it. Watching this process, Kim Gura joked, "Grandfather doesn't seem that surprised. You could see it as Lee Jang-won's play disguised as filial piety." Lee Jang-won agreed, making the atmosphere on set pleasant.
The grandfather, who possesses excellent skills in using smart devices, immediately used the completed 'Hal-lim Bell.' He even left technical feedback for the developer, Lee Jang-won, saying, "Fix this part like this."
The Strict Self-Management and Routine of a 100-Year-Old Centenarian
Despite being 100 years old, the grandfather showed proficiency in handling not only smartphones but also taxi-calling apps. His health condition was also good. He had only two dental implants, and the grandfather said, "There is no problem with eating. If you just bring delicious food, I eat everything."
The secret to the grandfather's health lay in his strict daily routine. Bae Da-hae prepared boiled eggs, vegetables, and vegetable juice for the breakfast table. Lee Jang-won explained that this was a healthy meal the grandfather made himself by referring to SNS and other sources. The grandfather maintained a regular rhythm of drinking vegetable juice every morning, eating vegetables and eggs, and reading the newspaper during meals.
Seeing the grandfather start his day at a set time, the cast members reacted, "People who live long lives have a consistent daily rhythm."

The grandfather's diary contains the emotional changes over time. However, the records after moving in with Lee Jang-won and Bae Da-hae have changed.
Recent diary entries are filled with daily life spent with family, such as watching movies together or eating out. In particular, the grandfather's record, "It feels like I'm truly living because the kids are here, rather than when I was alone in the big house," was shared with the cast. Lee Ji-hye expressed empathy, saying, "That is true filial piety. He feels much more alive than before."

The couple, Lee Jang-won and Bae Da-hae, who married in 2021, displayed their affection through skinship throughout the house. Lee Jang-won suddenly rushed toward Bae Da-hae to hug her, and Bae Da-hae could not hold back her laughter. Lee Jang-won added that he had been caught once before in the past.
