Son Dam Bi returns to acting after 7 years... begins filming short-form drama

Singer and actress Son Dam Bi is returning as an actress after seven years. After pausing her acting career following her appearance in the 2019 KBS drama 'When the Camellia Blooms', she recently announced her full-scale comeback by starting filming for a short-form drama. Her co-star is Go Joo-won.

Son Dam Bi recently shared photos taken during her overseas trip through her personal social media. Posing in a black slip dress paired with sneakers and sunglasses, she left a caption saying, "So excited." The background of the photos captured exotic street scenery and the interior of a taxi equipped with a screen for watching videos while traveling.

From the Dance Queen who sparked the 'Crazy' craze to an actress

Debuting in 2007 with the single album 'Cry Eye', Son Dam Bi made a name for herself as a performance-oriented dance singer. The title track 'Crazy' from her second mini-album released in 2008 triggered nationwide parodies with its chair-utilizing choreography. Subsequently, she took first place on music programs with the title track 'Saturday Night' from her first full-length album 'Type B' in 2009, winning the Main Prize at the High1 Seoul Music Awards and the Main Prize in the Digital Music category at the Golden Disc Awards.

Her album activities continued with mini-albums like 'The Queen' and 'Tears Flowing', and digital singles such as 'Red Candle'. She later expanded her field of activity into acting and variety shows. Playing the role of Yoo Chae-young in the MBC drama 'Lights and Shadows', she recorded the highest viewership in its time slot and received the Best New Actress award in the drama category at the 19th Korea Culture and Entertainment Awards and the Best Actress award in the Special Planning category at the MBC Drama Awards for this work. Afterwards, she played the role of Kwon Hyo-jin in the KBS weekend drama 'What Happens to My Family?' and the role of Choi Hyang-mi in the 2019 KBS drama 'When the Camellia Blooms'.

She also continued her activities in the film industry. She showcased her action skills as Yoon Sa-hee in the movie 'Detective: Returns', and in the same year, she challenged herself as a lead actress in a film playing the role of Mi-ji in 'Rose of Betrayal'. For these activities, she won the JIMFF RISING STAR award at the Jecheon International Music & Film Festival.

Variety show activities, parenting, and a new beginning

She also made a presence in variety shows. Appearing as a virtual couple with Marco on MBC's 'We Got Married', she received a Special Award and the Best Couple Award at the MBC Entertainment Awards, and she was active as a fixed member of 'I Live Alone'. She also participated as a key member in SBS 'Mixology 8-1000 Season 1 and 2'.

During the period after 2019 when her acting activities were sparse, there were changes in her personal life. She married former speed skater Lee Kyu-hyuk in May 2022 and gave birth to her daughter, Lee Hae-yi, last April. While taking care of her child and family, she has been sharing her daily life and beauty content through her YouTube channel 'Dambi Son'. Recently, she appeared on TV Chosun's 'Me and My Dad' to reveal her daily life with her mother.

She has continued her activities as an artist, such as traveling domestically and abroad to receive training from choreographers to learn krumping. This return through a short-form drama marks her first acting activity in seven years since 'When the Camellia Blooms' in 2019.
