“Is this really necessary?” Rescene Woni, in front of Daesung
Rescene's Woni drew laughter on the YouTube channel 'Jipdaeseong' with her confident attitude despite mistakes in the synchronized choreography. Let's check out the quirky charm of Woni, who ranked number one in brand reputation.
Woni, the leader of the girl group Rescene, revealed an unexpected, quirky charm on a variety show that contrasts with her perfect image. In a video released on the YouTube channel 'Zipdaeseong' on the 24th, Woni participated in the 'Variety Academy' test hosted by BigBang's Daesung. During this process, Woni made a series of unexpected mistakes, turning the set into a sea of laughter.
Known as a leader who usually leads her team calmly, Woni showed an unexpected side during the 'Random Play Dance' mission. While performing the choreography, she went off-route by herself, and in a move where all members raised their right hands, she made the mistake of raising her left hand alone. When Daesung pointed this out, instead of being flustered, Woni boldly countered, "Is this even necessary?" Minami shouted, "We matched with our right hands!" while other members defended the leader, saying she didn't match because she was hidden behind others. Daesung marveled at Woni's variety sense, saying, "She just said something that will leave a mark on the Korean K-POP idol scene."
No. 1 Brand Reputation and the 'Yaho' Meme
Woni recently ranked first in the girl group individual brand reputation big data analysis released by the Korea Corporate Reputation Research Institute, surpassing senior singers. The background for the rise in brand reputation is cited as the popularity of the meme 'Geoje Yaho~', which gained traction as her previously released song 'Love Attack' climbed back up the charts. Appearing on Kian84's YouTube channel 'Life 84' recently, Woni shared her current status, saying, "Even when I sleep a lot these days, I only get about 4 to 5 hours. The gaps between schedules are really tiring, but I am so happy lately." When Kian84 asked, "When are you going to become a star?", her reaction of being disgusted and saying, "Ugh, you're such an old-timer," brought laughter to fans. Woni added that her dream is to "conquer the world and become a confident superstar."
Member Minami is also building her own unique character. During her appearance on 'Zipdaeseong', Minami expressed her affection for the 'Gyaru' character, saying, "I love the Gyaru mindset. You don't put others down, and whatever you do, it's all Gyaru and it's all good." She continued with her ambition, saying, "Even though I am usually just Minami, I should create a mode where I can immediately switch to 'Yaho' whenever someone says, 'Be a Gyaru'." Rescene members also serve as regional ambassadors. Jena mentioned receiving calls from Geoje and Goyang, while Minami added wit by saying she hopes to be called to the Chiba region in Japan soon.
Rescene's Chemistry Shown at Variety Academy
In this episode of 'Zipdaeseong', the members of Rescene performed a mission where they had to finish their self-introductions within 24 seconds. Woni flustered Daesung by shouting only the trendy word "Oishii" instead of her own name. When Daesung asked, "This is a self-introduction, but you didn't introduce yourself. Did you forget because you were nervous?", Woni presented her quirky logic, saying, "It's a bit like that, and shouldn't 'Oishii' come up instead of 'Yaho'?" After the mission ended, when Daesung suggested a vote to change the leader, saying, "The leader is the weak link here," Minami reacted by saying, "I've given up. This is just how we are," while Jena concluded the situation by saying, "This is our charm."
Rescene began their activities by remaking Kara's 'Pretty Girl'. The honest side of the members shown through Daesung's 'Zipdaeseong' is part of the process of building public recognition. Meanwhile, Daesung released the digital single 'Daesung Special Single' in 2023 and the single 'Falling Slowly' in 2024, and is scheduled to release his first Korean EP 'D's WAVE' on April 8, 2025.
