Park Kyung Lim: "I faced criticism and prejudice that my voice was offensive"

Broadcaster Park Kyung Lim opened up about the prejudices and criticism she faced while pursuing her career as a radio DJ. Park appeared as a guest on the "Cine Invitation" segment of SBS Power FM's 'Park Ha-sun's Cine Town,' which aired on the 27th, to share her candid story.

"When I first said I was going to be a DJ, there was a lot of criticism and prejudice, with people saying it would be disrespectful to listeners if I hosted with that voice," she confessed. Despite the harsh scrutiny at the time, Park pushed through her limits by finding inner strength.

"I believed that I am the protagonist of my own story. I believed that if I could overcome these limits, I could become a ray of hope for someone else hitting a wall later on," she added. This moment revealed the resilience of Park, who has established herself as a peerless host by leading numerous radio programs such as 'Simsimtapa,' 'Starry Night,' and 'Two O'Clock Date.'

Park also shared anecdotes regarding films and fashion. She cited the Hanbok-style dress she wore on the pink carpet for 'Squid Game' as her most memorable outfit. She explained that it was meaningful to showcase traditional Korean attire in front of fans from all over the world. Additionally, she mentioned 'Billy Elliot' as the first film she would recommend to listeners.

In this episode, actor Jeon Seok-ho stepped in as a special DJ to host the show in place of DJ Park Ha-sun, who is on vacation. Jeon will fill the vacancy for 'Cine Town' for six days, from July 23 to 28. As a member of the "Radio Kids" generation who grew up listening to the radio, Jeon could not hide his excitement upon meeting his senior, Park Kyung Lim, whom he had previously only known through the airwaves, saying, "I can't believe it."

Jeon's skillful hosting earned high praise from Park. When asked to rate Jeon's hosting, Park gave him a thumbs up, saying, "It's already above a 9. I feel so comfortable." Toward the end of the broadcast, she gave him a final score of 9.9, highly praising him for creating a relaxed atmosphere, as if they were simply chatting over a cup of tea.

Talk Concert 'Life Water Station' to be Held in Daegu and Seoul this August

Park Kyung Lim will meet her audience directly through a talk concert this coming August. The subtitle for the talk concert is 'Life Water Station.' It carries the meaning of meeting at a water station to have a glass of water and rest when life feels difficult and exhausting. While it is unknown what kind of stories will unfold, the event is expected to be composed together with the stories of the audience.

The performances will begin on August 15 at the Daegu Ayang Art Center and continue on August 30 at the Yonsei University Sinchon Campus Centennial Concert Hall.

Park Kyung Lim chose 'Life Water Station' as the subtitle for her talk concert to be held this August. Explaining the reason behind the name, she said, "There are times when life is hard and exhausting. I chose it with the meaning of meeting at a water station, having a glass of water, and taking a good rest together."

The performance aims to be a stage created together with the audience. "I don't know what kind of stories will unfold. Since it will be done together with the audience's stories, I am truly looking forward to meeting them at the water station," Park shared.
