A case has occurred where a man with a weapon pursued a vehicle and even attacked it late at night, but controversy is arising as the police recommended stopping the investigation. This incident, which occurred on a rural road in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, on July 29, takes on the aspect of a violent crime where a threat to life was felt, going beyond a simple dispute.

A man blocking the vehicle and wielding a weapon... Victim says it was "a situation of attempted robbery"

According to the JTBC 'Han Moonchul's Dashcam Review' broadcast on October 6, 2026 (released on October 6, 2026), the victim faced an unexpected threat after stopping briefly on a deserted rural road. At the time, after starting the vehicle, the victim confirmed through the rearview mirror that the following vehicle was increasing its speed (about 60–70 km/h) to pursue them. When the victim, feeling threatened, stopped the vehicle, the assailants blocked the front of the car, got out, and attacked the vehicle while wielding a weapon. In this process, damage occurred in the form of the vehicle's hood being dented.

Regarding the situation at the time, the victim conveyed the terror they felt, saying, "I tried to turn the car around and leave, but the assailants blocked the car, got out, and attacked the vehicle," adding, "It was indescribably terrifying." In particular, citing the combination of the act of chasing the vehicle and the weapon attack, the victim raised the possibility that it was not a simple dispute but a situation of attempted robbery or preparation for robbery.

"You should have just stayed still"... Victim disappointed by police response

Immediately after the incident, the victim visited a nearby police substation to request help, but stated they received a response from the officer on duty saying, "In that situation, you should have just locked the doors and stayed still." The victim expressed doubt regarding the police response at the time, saying, "In an urgent situation where they could have broken the window and entered, it is hard to trust the instruction to just lock the doors and wait."

The victim visited the Icheon Police Station the next day to formally file a report, but the response received from the detective in charge about three weeks later was even more shocking. It is reported that the detective in charge expressed the position that they practically had to give up the investigation, stating, "We checked the visiting system, but the video is too dark to identify the license plate." It is reported that the police side is viewing this incident not as robbery or an attack, but at the level of simple 'hit-and-run property damage.'

Trauma continuing for two months, "It is hard to trust the public safety of South Korea"

Although two months have passed since the incident occurred, the victim is still experiencing difficulties in daily life. The victim complained of severe trauma, saying, "For nearly a week after the incident, there were problems in my daily life, and even now, I am so afraid of encountering that vehicle that I want to change my car." Additionally, the victim requested a swift investigation, mentioning that people with a similar appearance to the perpetrators have been spotted near the location where the incident occurred.

The victim emphasized, "It is said that South Korea is the country with the best public safety in the world, but I am disappointed in the reality where such things happen and investigations are not properly carried out," adding, "A thorough investigation is necessary so that the perpetrators do not commit crimes again."
