Chang Kiha's first studio album in 8 years, 'Shattered to Pieces'... A 'Video Music' approach where the video was made first
Singer Chang Kiha revealed his experimental production process for his new studio album 'Shattered to Pieces' during an appearance on KBS 'The Seasons S9'. He explained his unique "Video Music" method, where he composed music for a 30-minute silent film rather than creating a music video for a song.

The production method of singer Chang Kiha's first studio album in 8 years has been revealed as an experimental attempt that breaks away from existing conventions. He recently appeared on KBS 'The Seasons S9' and revealed the unique work process and musical values contained in his new album 'Shattered to Pieces'.
Relieved by the comment "Is this a song?"... Maintaining Chang Kiha's own color
While introducing his new song 'You or Me or Me or Me', Chang Kiha mentioned the reactions he has consistently received since his debut. He recalled that the first comment on a video of him singing 'You or Me or Me' a cappella on another broadcast was the reaction, "Is this a song?". Chang Kiha said, "It is something I have been hearing steadily since my debut," and added that if such reactions didn't occur, he might worry that he has become too conventional. He shared his feelings of being relieved upon encountering that comment, suggesting that he is maintaining his own musical color.

On the stage that day, Chang Kiha sequentially performed 'I'm Not Jealous', a track from his previous EP, and the title track of this studio album, 'You or Me or Me or Me'. In particular, during the 'You or Me or Me or Me' stage, he showed an ability to naturally make the audience stand up.
'Video Music' born from film music experience... Combined with a 30-minute silent film
The biggest feature of this album is a reverse-thinking work method where the video is produced first, followed by adding the music. Chang Kiha explained, "Usually, a music video is made by making a song and matching it to the video, but this time, I first made a silent film that is a little over 30 minutes long and completed 9 songs by adding music to that film."
This unconventional attempt stemmed from his recent experience working on film music. Chang Kiha stated, "While working as a music director for the films 'Smugglers' and 'I, the Executioner', I went through two rounds of hard training that felt like hell," and added, "I thought I should use that experience in my own work." He defined this result, where the sequence of music and video is reversed, not as a 'music video' but as 'video music'.
The collision of White Kiha and Black Kiha... A narrative realized through a silent film
The content of this video music, in which Chang Kiha himself plays the protagonist, deals with good and evil, or changes in daily life. In the video, 'White Kiha' and 'Black Kiha' appear. White Kiha is depicted as a character living a peaceful daily life, while Black Kiha is depicted as an entity that changes and ruins that daily life.
The video was produced in a silent film format with no dialogue or ambient sound at all. Chang Kiha explained, "All the sounds in the video are expressed only through music," emphasizing the structure where the video and music flow seamlessly. He added regarding this work, "I went into it without knowing it was a big undertaking, but it was hard once I did it myself," expressing his hope that this attempt will be well-received by the public.
