Singer Chang Kiha revealed his own perspective on the emotion of envy. In a video for 'The Seasons S9' released on KBS WORLD TV, Chang Kiha unpacked the psychology intertwined with envy and boasting in the form of a monologue.

"If you want to do well, go ahead" An attitude without envy

In the video, Chang Kiha continued his candid remarks regarding the attitude of someone wanting to do something well, saying, "I'm fine." He repeatedly stated his position that he is not at all envious of what the other person seeks to achieve. In particular, regarding situations where someone wants to boast about something, he said, "If it's something you want to do well, go ahead as much as you want, I'm fine because I'm not envious," emphasizing that others' achievements do not come to him as jealousy or deficiency.

He suggested putting their heads together to think, assuming situations where it is unknown whether the other person has a lot or whether he himself has a lot. He mentioned positions where one might feel envious or annoyed if someone else has 100,000 won or 1,000,000 won, presenting a process of thinking from the other person's perspective. He also added that in the world, situations may exist where one feels envious and annoyed at a person who has 10,000,000 won.

Contemplation on the correlation between boasting and envy

Chang Kiha also mentioned the psychological mechanism through which envy occurs. He repeated the sentence, "Because I'm envious, I boast, and because I boast, I become envious," describing the phenomenon where the desire to boast and the emotion of envy turn together. This part shows a circular structure where another person's boasting stimulates envy, and that envy leads back to boasting.

Chang Kiha mentioned that there are people in the world who do not know the emotion of envy, and repeatedly asserted that he himself is in a state of having no envy at all. He maintained an attitude that if the other person has a desire to boast, it is fine to express it sufficiently. He continued the conversation by repeating his position that he is not envious at all, saying it is fine to boast as much as one wants since the other person must be so envious.
