B:DAWN's Moon-Base Chuseok: Members Reveal Their Tricks for Getting More Pocket Money
The group B:DAWN staged a Chuseok holiday on a moon base in a YouTube video, sharing candid tips on collecting pocket money from relatives and playing a game of yutnori. The video also features a rhythm test and a lesson in the deep traditional bow.
Get a bit of charm ready if a tougher relative is handing out the money: that was one of the pocket-money strategies shared by the group B:DAWN in a Chuseok video set on a moon base. The clip also includes a yutnori match, a rhythm test and a lesson in the traditional bow.
Pocket money, relatives and "reading the room"
In their holiday conversation, the members talked about Lunar New Year and Chuseok as the occasions when receiving pocket money is perfectly legitimate, and about how they end up watching adults' moods in front of them.
Their know-how for earning more was shared too. With an easygoing adult, they said, you simply approach naturally; with a slightly pickier one, you have to act cute, a "practical" (?) strategy, as the video puts it. One member said that before bowing, they murmur to themselves, "You've been doing well lately," to steel themselves, and sometimes show signs of being worn out to draw adults' attention. Each member described a coping method of their own.
Stories about changing relationships with younger cousins also stood out. Cousins who once played together have grown up, now acting mature or even speaking casually first, which left a member feeling unfamiliar with them. The members contrasted memories of playing on game consoles in the days before mobile phones with today's scene, in which everyone is looking at their own phone, a change in the holiday that drew sympathy.
Yutnori with strawberries and potatoes
The setting had the members living in the moon base and needing to make tteok. To get into the holiday mood, they played yutnori, split into a "Strawberry Team" and a "Potato Team," with each side recruiting the teammates it wanted before the contest.
The game unfolded amid fierce psychological sparring. The special "back-do" rule (moving back one space) and the rule of capturing an opponent's piece added tension. One team captured the other's piece, the tide turned again and again, and the members plotted strategy with total absorption. After a close battle, one team took the final victory, closing out the holiday game.
Rhythm test and a deep bow
Before the main game, a rhythm test revealed the members' different talents. In a mini game that tested reaction speed to the beat of a particular song, each member showed off their sense of rhythm as they competed.
The video also included a lesson in holiday etiquette: the members learned the deep bow, the classic form of holiday greeting. Against the unusual backdrop of the moon base, the video ended with the members reflecting on the meaning of the holiday and exchanging greetings.
