Jeong Hong-il Plays the Busan Stage He Once Missed, in a One-Hour Set From "Tumbleweed" to "RedOne"
Jeong Hong-il and the Jung Hong-il Band played the live content show ONE HOUR at KT&G Sangsangmadang Live Hall in Busan, a venue he once called a dream stage. He said he never got to play there in his Bakaus days.
Musician Jeong Hong-il said he hoped stages like this would keep going, stressing the purpose and meaning of a space where Busan's musicians gather. He made the remark while performing at KT&G Sangsangmadang Live Hall in Busan, a venue he had long regarded as a dream stage.
A one-hour set built around the band's sound
The Jung Hong-il Band appeared on the live content show ONE HOUR. The set opened with "Tumbleweed" and continued with songs that carry the band's color. Jeong Hong-il engaged the audience through "Confession," then delivered the energy of rock through "RedOne," "Whirlpool" and other songs. A guitar solo section, followed by "Path of Light" and "Life in the World," emphasized the texture of the band's sound.
A dream from his heavy metal days
Jeong Hong-il recalled that when he was active in the heavy metal band Bakaus, he named this venue as his dream stage. He said the band released its second and third albums and held a showcase at KT&G Sangsangmadang Hongdae, but the timing never worked out for the Busan stage. Having returned years later with good bandmates, he spoke of his affection for the stage.
Playing to a seated crowd
The audience watched seated. Jeong Hong-il said the stage is high enough that it feels as if he is looking down at the crowd, and described an atmosphere different from a standing show. He led the room by saying fans might be itching to stand up, but that everyone should find a way to enjoy the night while seated.
He said he gets a lot of energy from being able to see the audience from the stage. Normally the crowd is hard to make out and he wonders how people are cheering, he added, but this time he could see them well, which was a great help in singing.
Noting the rule of finishing within a fixed one hour, he also promised to connect with fans watching via streaming.
