MMA fighter Park Si-won aims to rebuild his market value in an upcoming match against Kamari, a Bahraini fighter, as his ROAD FC contract nears its end. Following two consecutive losses attributed to carelessness and injury, the former champion plans to secure a victory to avoid starting over in interleague matches.
MMA fighter Park Si-won, who has experienced recent setbacks with two consecutive losses, has expressed a strong will to make a comeback, defining himself as "virtually undefeated." The former ROAD FC champion analyzed the causes of his defeats in a recent interview, discussing his ground-and-pound performance in a match against a Brazilian fighter and detailing his future fight plans.
"Carelessness and injury were the causes"... Mindset of the "virtually undefeated" after two losses
Regarding his two recent losses, Park Si-won stated, "I regained my focus and composed my mind." Explaining his description of himself as "virtually undefeated" despite having two losses on his record, he suggested there is no issue with his actual skill level. He cited carelessness during the matches and unexpected injuries as the reasons for his defeats. Specifically regarding his most recent fight, he expressed confidence in his ability, noting, "If I had just lost the weight, it was a match I would have definitely won."
He also reflected honestly on his past fight management. He admitted to being overly confident in one match, thinking, "Even if I just beat him up without a strategy, he would lose," and acknowledged that he may have underestimated his opponent. Regarding how this confidence might affect his future path, he added that while his bold demeanor might build anticipation, it could also be viewed negatively by critics.
Controversy over ground-and-pound against Brazilian fighter... "Stopped quickly after checking his condition"
Park provided a detailed explanation of his KO victory over Wanderson Pereira, a former champion of a Brazilian MMA organization. Addressing reactions that his ground-and-pound following a first-round knockdown via mid-kick and punches resembled "axing," he replied, "Perhaps because I played a lot of games when I was young, ground-and-pound built up with a shotgun felt comfortable." He also explained that his use of both hands during the ground-and-pound, which some noted appeared clumsy, occurred because "I was in too much of a hurry."
In particular, he made his stance clear regarding the referee's decision at the end of the match. Noting that the opponent's condition was very poor at the time, he said, "If he had taken more hits, that fighter wouldn't have been able to return to Brazil." He explained that he struck the ground-and-pound quickly because "I confirmed his eyes were looking elsewhere and his legs had given out, so I judged that if I just performed the action, the referee would stop it immediately," suggesting the decision was made with the fighter's safety in mind. He also expressed the view that the match was not one that should have resulted in an early stoppage.
End of ROAD FC contract and next fight... Matchup against Bahraini fighter announced
Regarding his future direction, Park suggested he is in a period of transition. "There is not much time left on my contract with ROAD FC," Park said, noting that he is keeping various possibilities open, including a transfer, after this upcoming match. As the result of this fight is directly linked to his market value, he expressed a firm determination to solidify his position through victory. He mentioned the realistic situation that winning will increase his value, but losing would mean starting again from interleague matches.
For his next opponent, Park mentioned Kamari, a fighter of Bahraini nationality. Park stated that he had originally been preparing for a lightweight match, but participation became difficult due to changes in weight class, and an offer happened to come along. He noted that while the opponent is from Dagestan, he changed his nationality through the sponsorship of Bahraini royalty, and stated he is focusing on preparing for the upcoming match.
