Park Eun-bin, Yang Se-jong, and Ong Seong-wu unite for 'Oksakhan Yeon-ae' (Chilling Romance)

"From a 2-hour movie to a 12-episode series"... A radical variation that transcends the original

Actors Park Eun-bin, Yang Se-jong, and Ong Seong-wu gathered in one place. On the afternoon of the 14th, a production presentation for the new tvN weekend drama 'Spooky Romance' (written by Choi Jung-mi, directed by Lee Min-soo) was held at the Eliena Hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. This work, an occult romance adapted from the film of the same name starring Son Ye-jin and Lee Min-ki, maintains the core setting of the movie—a female protagonist who sees ghosts—but expands it into 12 episodes by boldly overturning the characters and background.

Park Eun-bin transforms into Cheon Yeo-ri, the CEO of Korea's top luxury hotel. Unlike the original character, she is a cool-headed executive who also possesses a warm heart capable of sacrificing for others. Park Eun-bin stated, "By expanding a 2-hour movie into 12 episodes, we infused more than six times the amount of new settings," adding, "Viewers will be able to enjoy a much richer and more interesting story."

Unique devices specific to the drama have also been added. With the added setting that anyone whose hand Cheon Yeo-ri touches can see ghosts, more diverse incidents unfold than in the original. Park Eun-bin, who had to wear gloves throughout filming due to her character's special trait, revealed, "I put a lot of effort into the styling to match the chaebol role. Instead of wearing gloves, I tried to vary the outfits and hair as much as possible."

PD Lee Min-soo defined this work as 'transmedia,' which expands and delivers a single worldview across multiple platforms. Explaining the background for choosing the original, Lee said, "Don't romantic feelings bloom even more in occult situations like a haunted house? I thought we could add spooky fun to the relationship between the two." The core of the direction is romance. The occult proportion is about 50%, and since the two characters always end up together whenever a ghost appears, the story ultimately focuses on their love.

Between a prosecutor and a hotel CEO, the chemistry of 92-liners and the appearance of a villain

Yang Se-jong takes on the role of Ma Kang-wook, an ace prosecutor at the Seoul District Prosecutors' Office. Although he is a man with an outstanding intellect and physique, his ordinary daily life is shaken after meeting Cheon Yeo-ri. Yang Se-jong laughed, saying, "The character setting is completely different from the original," and "Since I am a coward, filming the scenes where I am surprised by seeing ghosts was so much fun. I think that part will also be entertaining for the viewers." He teased a 'puppy-like' charm that differs from his previous romance works.

Ong Seong-wu, who serves as the axis of the love triangle, plays Kang Min-hwan, the CEO of Raymond Hotel. As an original character not present in the original work, he is the figure leading the core conflict of the drama. Ong Seong-wu challenges his first villainous role through this work. He shared, "I often hear that I look upright, so I wanted to show a face different from that image," and "I tried to exude a chilling atmosphere even in ordinary scenes." Park Eun-bin mentioned that Ong Seong-wu, who approaches her cutely calling her 'Noona' outside the set, changes completely once the camera starts rolling.

The chemistry between Park Eun-bin and Yang Se-jong, who are the same age born in 1992, also draws attention. Park Eun-bin said, "It's my first time meeting a peer actor as a partner," and "With Ong Seong-wu, born in '95, joining in, we will emit the 'refreshing' energy defined by the director." Yang Se-jong defined the work as 'clear,' saying, "Eun-bin is my first co-star of the same age, and our chemistry was great. We laughed a lot and it was good."

Ong Seong-wu cited 'hands' as an important device in the drama. He added, "Please focus on how Cheon Yeo-ri and Ma Kang-wook come to hold hands, and how the hand Cheon Yeo-ri reaches out changes Ma Kang-wook's life." Park Eun-bin emphasized the refreshing love line that Cheon Yeo-ri and Ma Kang-wook will show, while Yang Se-jong highlighted that Director Lee Min-soo's warm sensibility is infused throughout the work.

'Spooky Romance,' which will build a new lineup for the weekend living rooms, will premiere on tvN on the 18th.
