Han Ga-in honestly says Han Ga-in and Ryu Soo-young's tteokbokki recipe "lacks perfection"
Actress Han Ga-in cooked and tasted Ryu Soo-young's tteokbokki recipe on YouTube, leaving an honest review that the flavors lacked harmony.
Actress Han Ga-in has released an unfiltered review after recreating Ryu Su-young's tteokbokki recipe through her YouTube channel. On the 23rd, a video titled "What happens when tteokbokki killer Han Ga-in tries the TOP 5 tteokbokki recipes on YouTube" was uploaded to her YouTube channel, 'Free Woman Han Ga-in.' As a regular lover of tteokbokki, Han Ga-in personally cooked and compared the tastes of five highly viewed recipes.
“The flavors feel disconnected” – A direct critique of Ryu Su-young's recipe
The first dish she tasted was the 'Lifetime Tteokbokki' recipe by Ryu Su-young, who is widely known by the nickname 'Eonam-seonsaeng' (Teacher Eonam). When the production team asked about her closeness with Ryu Su-young, Han Ga-in drew a line, saying, "I don't know him at all." She teased her honest review, stating, "When I review food, I'm not the type to say something tastes good when it doesn't. It shows on my face."
After tasting the finished tteokbokki, Han Ga-in mentioned that the texture of the rice cakes and the seasoning itself were okay, but she questioned the harmony of the flavors. Han evaluated, "It feels like the salty, sweet, and spicy flavors are all playing separately. It feels like it lacks completeness. It's not that it tastes bad, but it's not incredibly delicious either. It's ambiguous." In particular, regarding Ryu Su-young's suggestion that "you can cook with this recipe for the rest of your life," she delivered a firm impression, saying, "I have my doubts."
In the final ranking after tasting all five recipes, Ryu Su-young's recipe fell to the bottom at 5th place. However, Han added, "It might be that I made it wrong. Even with the same recipe, the taste can differ depending on the person making it," and "It might have been fine when Ryu Su-young made it himself." Referencing her previous experience with coffee, she repeatedly took a cautious stance, saying, "It might be my mistake."
From Grandma Park Mak-rye to Mother-in-law's luxury tteokbokki
In this video, after tasting Grandma Park Mak-rye's recipe, Han expressed that it was close to her "Mom's style tteokbokki" standard. She showed her affection for tteokbokki by reminiscing about the ketchup tteokbokki her aunt used to make for her during her childhood. Meanwhile, her mother-in-law's recipe was also mentioned. Quoting actor Yeon Jung-hoon, she introduced his mother's tteokbokki as "rice tteokbokki with beef," calling it "the pinnacle of luxury."
Upon the release of Han Ga-in's review video, online reactions included, "It's just a difference in taste," "I actually like that she's honest," and "I want to try making it myself."
“The flavors are not harmonious” – Han Ga-in reveals her honest feelings
After tasting Ryu Su-young's recipe, Han said, "The flavors are not harmonious. The salty and sweet flavors are all disconnected. It feels like it lacks completeness. It's neither good nor bad. It's ambiguous." She continued to express her honest feelings, saying, "You can cook this for the rest of your life? I have my doubts." However, she left room for possibility regarding the cooking process. She added, "It might be that I made it wrong. It might be fine when Ryu Su-young does it, but because I did it, it turned out this way," and "It might be because of my cooking skills."
