A making-of film capturing the production process of singer Lee Seung-yoon's 4th studio album, Album Zero, has been released. This video contains scenes from the work site preparing for the 4th studio album, starting with the first vocal recording on July 2, 2025.
"Like discovering ancient relics"... An 'archaeological' perspective on the 4th studio album
Lee Seung-yoon compared the core of this 4th studio album work to 'archaeology'. According to the conversation in the video, in the process of refining songs worked on in the past, not damaging the emotions of that time was cited as an important task, much like discovering ancient relics. He mentioned that if existing efforts are unconditionally modified with current perspectives, the emotions of that time may disappear, and revealed that he is proceeding with the work in a direction of upgrading the quality while preserving the existing color.
In particular, difficulties were mentioned in dealing with songs that already have many interpretations through performances. The process included coordinating the gap between the feeling at the performance site and the studio recording, and it was revealed that he has been contemplating for a long time to give new justification and meaning rather than simply re-recording existing songs.
The struggle of re-working 29 songs and the background of the birth of 'Album Zero'
Specific considerations regarding the composition and release timing of the 4th studio album were also mentioned. Lee Seung-yoon's side explained that after intense deliberation over whether to bundle all the songs separated into EPs and release them next June, or to add new songs, they set the direction for the current composition. Regarding the decision to re-work as many as 29 songs, he conveyed that although there was much worry at first about what to do, he is engaging in the work including songs he personally had greed for.
Discussions were also held regarding the name and character of the album. In the video, considerations regarding the official name of the album or the commentary format appeared, and it was also mentioned that the work process is not always dynamic but can sometimes be a repetition of boring and dull processes. A conversation followed to the effect that these boring processes actually become the strength for making music.
Studio recording site and sound detail work
The video shows the sound check and feedback process in the actual recording studio in detail. It contains scenes of vocal recordings for songs including Heartbeat, and shows the process of checking microphone positions, dynamics, and changes in overtones. In particular, it is observed that various amplifiers and effectors are used to catch the guitar sound tone, and the points where the bass and guitar mesh are finely adjusted.
During the recording process, specific feedback to increase the perfection of the songs was exchanged. In the case of certain songs, work such as refining local sounds during the mixing stage or adjusting the attack of the vocals was carried out. Additionally, technical considerations to complete the 4th studio album, such as the process of matching the drum and guitar sounds made using virtual instruments with actual performances, were recorded in the video.
