Park Joon-geum addressed a past rumor that she had been barred from appearing and revealed the family story behind her name during an appearance on MBC’s Radio Star, broadcast on the 14th.

Park also admitted that she was not good at choosing men.

Known by the nickname “JENNIE in her 60s,” Park drew attention with her polished fashion. She said, “Clothing is a silent introduction,” and described her ongoing efforts to develop her style, including keeping up with fashion magazines and shows. “You can become rich suddenly, but you can’t become stylish suddenly,” she said, explaining that she believes becoming truly stylish takes time, experience and mistakes.

Park says appearance-ban rumor was a misunderstanding

Park denied a rumor that she had taken charge of shoots with an intimidating attitude on past productions. She said the story was “different from the facts” and attributed the misunderstanding to the particular production environment of the 1980s.

“It was a time when directors swore a lot, and I think what I said to protect the new actors when they were intimidated was distorted,” she said. She said she had spoken up to help new actors feel more at ease on set, but that her actions may have appeared forceful to some and contributed to the rumor. “I’m not the type to hit anyone, and I’m not the type to get hit,” she said, emphasizing that the story had been exaggerated.

Park said she currently maintains a weight in the 43-kilogram range and attributed her basic fitness to her earlier studies in dance. She said she pays close attention to her diet. “If you maintain a fast of at least 17 hours, the old cells are eaten away by the new ones, and your body keeps renewing itself,” she said, describing her approach.

She added that she enjoys cooking and makes dishes such as kimbap and braised ribs for herself. While traveling, she sometimes eats freely with her companions, but said she follows her own rules, including limiting soup, to manage her weight. She called dieting “a lifelong companion.”

Park said she learned only later that the “Geum” in her name came from the name of her father’s first love, Geum-ju. Her father told her the story after her mother died at the age of 26.
