Singer Sean ran a 10km course near Paldang with young people in their 20s, sharing sincere stories about challenges and failure based on his own past experiences. Sean shared the details of this 10km running project, conducted as part of the KT Y 10th anniversary campaign, through his YouTube channel "With Sean."
On this day, Sean ran the 10km course near Paldang with five novice runners in their 20s who gathered from Changwon, Seoul, and other areas. Serving as a pacemaker, Sean helped the participants complete the course while engaging in conversations about the concerns felt by those in their 20s and the changing social landscape.
Addressing "Silver Spoon" rumors with stories of economic hardship
Sean spoke directly regarding the "silver spoon" rumors often raised about his life. He mentioned the period before his debut at age 25, when he was preparing to debut with a different group or working as a dancer, stating that he faced severe economic difficulties at that time. He explained that he had been working since he was young and experienced such economic deprivation that there were times he lacked the money to eat or a place to sleep.
He added that these past experiences did not make his current self struggle. "Once I began dreaming of being a singer, I never once wavered or felt uncertain," Sean said, explaining that even when economic circumstances were not supportive, doing what he loved became a way of life in itself.
"Failure is a process to move forward": Advice for those in their 20s
To young people expressing anxiety about employment and the future, Sean presented a perspective on how to view "failure." Citing the example of Michael Jordan, he emphasized that missing more shots is part of the process of scoring. "I believe failure is also a process for moving forward," Sean said, noting that even at 50, he still does not fear failure.
He also addressed the boredom that can occur when a passion becomes a profession. Using the example of people who do not feel happiness despite having the job they desperately wanted, he advised that regardless of the job one holds, it is important not to forget the mindset of feeling happy simply to be in that position. "If you give up because it is hard, you won't even have the chance to find what you love," he urged, encouraging them to continue their challenges.
The power of routine and the importance of new challenges
Sean also discussed the value of a "routine" in maintaining a consistent lifestyle. Mentioning a runner who holds a world record in their 70s, he explained that a steady routine eventually produces results. He added that when those in their 20s and 30s are unsure of what to do, they can engage in self-development through a routine.
At the same time, he delivered a message not to fear change. Recalling his experience of completing a 10km run while pushing a stroller at age 40, Sean stated that he continues to take on new challenges every year through promises made to himself. "I hope you keep your routines, but I also hope you are not afraid to encounter new things," he said, cheering on the challenges of the youth.
