Family conflict erupts in Cha Min-gi's hospital room, 'Family Relationship Certificate'
MBC's 'Family Relationship Certificate' recorded a peak viewership rating of 5.4% through Cha Min-gi's worsening condition and family conflicts.
Tragedy Erupts in the Hospital Room, Peak Ratings Hit 5.4%
MBC daily drama 'Family Relationship Certificate' continues its upward trend. In the 5th episode aired on the 10th, as the condition of Cha Min-ki (played by Jeon No-min), who received a terminal diagnosis, worsened, the suppressed wounds of the family members erupted all at once in the confined space of the hospital room. The episode recorded a viewership rating of 4.6% in the metropolitan area and 4.1% nationwide, breaking its own previous record. In particular, the scene where the two sons poured out their resentment toward Cha Min-ki saw the peak viewership soar to 5.4%.
The air in the hospital room was cold and intense. Cha Seung-woo (played by Jeon Seung-bin), Cha Min-ki's son, poured out the resentment he had held back toward his father, who had caused nothing but pain to the family throughout his life. Seung-woo's cry, "Jini was your only child," pierced Min-ki's heart. Min-ki, lying there with a prosthetic leg, checked his son's leg and eventually knelt down to apologize through tears. However, this moment of reconciliation immediately led to another conflict. As Na Se-ri (played by Han Go-eun) expressed her anger toward Seung-woo, Noh Young-ju (played by Lim Ji-eun) entered the room, slapped Se-ri's cheek, and heightened the tension by shouting, "You're the one who should stay out of our family business!"
Misaligned Sincerity and Deepening Misunderstandings: The Precarious Relationship Between Jini and Jihu
Separate from Cha Min-ki's illness, the relationship between Na Jini (played by Park Se-young) and Lim Jihu (played by Sung Yi-eon) was once again pushed to the edge due to Do Do-hee's (played by Park Sol-la) scheme. Do Do-hee intentionally acted as if she were a victim by pretending to collapse in front of Jihu. Witnessing this, Jihu turned his back coldly on Jini, calling her a "truly scary person." Jini, who had previously refused Jihu's help due to past trauma, had even been falsely accused of being a school violence perpetrator, causing her to miss the opportunity to pass a competition. The relationship between the two, who had reunited after overcoming a crisis on the road, drifted apart once again.
Jihu confided in his uncle Lim Sa-bin (played by Yoon Hee-seok) about his worries regarding whether his judgment was wrong. Jini struggled against Jihu's misunderstanding of her, countering, "Don't jump to conclusions when you don't even know me well." Jini fell into a severe state of panic and faced a dangerous situation by heading toward the roadway, but Jihu threw himself forward to save her. However, with Do-hee's malicious actions added to the mix, the distance between the two grew apart once more.
'Na Jini,' Not 'Cha Jini': The Bitter Reality Faced by Min-ki
After regaining consciousness, Cha Min-ki gave his final words of encouragement to his daughter, Jini. Looking at Jini's drawings, he said, "Your drawings have the power to comfort people," expressing his apology for the fact that Jini had lived a wounded life because of his choices. However, behind the warm consolation, a harsh reality awaited. In the process of being introduced to his daughter-in-law Mai (played by Jung So-young) and nephew Cha Oh-reum (played by Jang Yi-jun), it was once again confirmed that her name is 'Na Jini,' not 'Cha Jini.'
As his husband's death approached, Na Se-ri's anxiety also reached its peak. Se-ri, who had to live with the stigma of being a former mistress, expressed her fear to Lim Sa-bin, saying, "I think he regrets me." Se-ri's appearance in the hospital room, wailing to Min-ki, "Let's die together," revealed her complex emotions. Se-ri's remark in episode 4, "It's all because of Seochon. I will make you pay for all my tears of blood," serves as a foreshadowing that will change the future flow of the drama.
Noh Young-ju's Confession: A Choice for Farewell, Not Forgiveness
Amidst the family conflicts, Noh Young-ju's attitude left a lingering impression on the drama. Seeing Young-ju preparing mushroom water for Min-ki, Cha Seung-woo expressed his anger, asking why she was trying to save a father who had only caused pain to the family his whole life. In response, Young-ju made it clear that she had not forgiven Min-ki. She confessed, "I want to properly let go of my shabby 20s." This was not a choice of forgiveness toward Min-ki, but a choice to say goodbye to her painful self from the past.
In episode 4, Min-ki showed self-pity toward Na Se-ri and Noh Young-ju, asking, "You guys are fine, so why am I the only one with cancer?" to which Young-ju retorted, "Many people suffered because of you. You're being punished. Serves you right." MBC daily drama 'Family Relationship Certificate' airs every Monday to Friday at 7:05 PM, and the 6th episode will follow on the 13th.
