Global Re-release of 'Train to Busan' 10th Anniversary 4K Remastered Edition

Director Yeon Sang Ho's zombie film 'Train to Busan' meets global audiences once again to mark its 10th anniversary. Distributor NEW announced that the 4K remastered version of 'Train to Busan' will be re-released sequentially in major countries, starting with the Philippines on August 5, followed by North America, Japan, and Italy.

The release schedule has been confirmed as follows: the Philippines on August 5, North America on August 14, Japan on August 21, and Italy on September 2. Major Latin American countries, including Spain, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, and Mexico, are also currently coordinating their release schedules.

K-Zombie expands scale with 500 screens in North America

The most notable change in this re-release is the scale of screening in the North American market. In 2016, it was a limited release in a restricted number of screens, but this time it will reach audiences through a wide release, securing more than 500 screens. Compared to 10 years ago, the screening scale has increased more than tenfold. It features clearer picture quality and enhanced sound through 4K remastering.

New visual elements celebrating the re-release have also been unveiled. Artist Oliver Barrett, who has collaborated with global studios such as A24, Netflix, and Disney, was in charge of designing the new poster for this re-release. Oliver Barrett presented a poster that reinterprets the film's unique tension with a modern sensibility. Lee Jung-ha, CEO of Contents Panda, stated, "It is even more meaningful to have a wide theatrical release 10 years after the limited North American release in 2016," adding, "As a representative work of K-Zombie, we expect it to once again provide a new cinematic experience to audiences worldwide."

Released on July 20, 2016, 'Train to Busan' became a box office hit, being the first Korean zombie film to surpass 10 million viewers. It also gained critical recognition by being invited to the Midnight Screening section of the 69th Cannes International Film Festival. Starring Gong Yoo, Jung Yumi, and Ma Dong-seok, this film sparked the K-Zombie craze, receiving acclaim from overseas masters such as Guillermo del Toro, director Edgar Wright, and novelist Stephen King.

This work is the starting point of the 'Yeon-iverse,' the cinematic universe established by director Yeon Sang Ho. It forms the foundation of the universe that continues through the animation 'Seoul Station' and the film 'Peninsula.' This global re-release is expected to serve as an opportunity to once again confirm the power of the 'Train to Busan' IP.
