ITZY's RYUJIN and CHAERYEONG reveal secret to 11-year bond: "A process of adjusting to different personalities"

RYUJIN and CHAERYEONG, members of the group ITZY, have revealed the secret to the solid relationship they have built over a long period of 11 years. They stated that because they possess different personalities, they completed their current chemistry through a process of understanding and adjusting to one another.

RYUJIN and CHAERYEONG appeared as guests on Season 3 of 'Your Night, My Night,' a content series hosted by singer HANRORO. Having recently completed a European tour and visiting via Taipei, the two engaged in deep conversation, sharing recent updates and various concerns sent in by fans.

RYUJIN and CHAERYEONG have known each other since before their debut, marking 11 years of connection this year. The fact that their personalities are very different was a key theme in describing their relationship. RYUJIN defined her past self as "assertive," while describing CHAERYEONG as having a "personality that found it difficult to face things head-on."

RYUJIN recalled, "When I was young, I felt frustrated because I had to resolve everything and move on, and I absolutely had to know the reason," adding, "On the other hand, CHAERYEONG had a tendency to avoid facing conflicts at that time." She added that while there were moments in the past when she avoided CHAERYEONG because it was difficult to understand her due to these personality differences, she has since learned how to understand and accept others through her career in the entertainment industry.

CHAERYEONG mentioned that she wants to emulate RYUJIN's rational side. "RYUJIN speaks very logically, and she gives the impression of having calm conversations by stepping back from her own emotions," CHAERYEONG said, adding, "I envied the way she looks so that others wouldn't take her lightly, so I put in a lot of effort." RYUJIN also shared, "Watching CHAERYEONG, I feel that the words she offers are comforting when I am having a hard time, and I learned that I can understand and comfort someone even if I do not know their heart entirely."

The two explained that they went through a "beta test" process of respecting and adjusting to each other's ways when conflicts arose. They explained that as RYUJIN expresses opinions directly, CHAERYEONG accepts them, and through this process, they modified their respective ways of expression to increase the density of their relationship. In particular, RYUJIN emphasized the importance of mutual effort to maintain a relationship, stating, "A relationship where only one side is making an effort can never be eternal."

The conversation led to counseling for concerns sent in by fans. Regarding a story from a "Power N (Intuitive type)" personality who stays up at night due to having many stray thoughts, the two responded in their own ways. RYUJIN drew laughter by mentioning a realistic coping method, saying, "I imagine so much that I wonder if the table legs will suddenly collapse."

A stark difference between the two was also revealed regarding how to handle a robbery. RYUJIN drew attention by suggesting a specific, movie-like plan to subdue a robber using household items, saying, "I would act immediately once I debut." In contrast, CHAERYEONG showed a realistic reaction, contrasting the two by saying, "I think I would just give them one thing and let them go," noting that one's life could be in danger.

CHAERYEONG highly evaluated RYUJIN's mature way of communicating, noting that she "mixes empathy and understanding in a customized way" regarding RYUJIN's logical way of talking. RYUJIN added that their current chemistry can be maintained because CHAERYEONG responds with sense without being serious even at her ridiculous jokes.

Meanwhile, their meticulous sides were revealed regarding concerns about handwritten letters. RYUJIN stated that even if it is not an anniversary, she tends to write letters and give gifts when she suddenly thinks of someone, and CHAERYEONG agreed, noting that expressing one's heart suddenly like RYUJIN can be a bigger surprise to the recipient.
