Genesis unveils GV90 flagship SUV with world-first pillarless cabin
Hyundai Motor Group has revealed the Genesis GV90, a flagship electric SUV designed to redefine luxury through a pillarless cabin, coach doors, and traditional Korean-inspired heating technology.
Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled the Genesis GV90, a flagship electric SUV featuring a world-first pillarless cabin and a roof airbag designed to protect occupants during rollovers. The vehicle utilizes a high-capacity battery platform and coach doors with dual-motion hinges to create a lounge-like interior experience.
Genesis is redefining the standards of flagship electric SUVs by combining technology with craftsmanship. The Genesis GV90, unveiled by Hyundai Motor Group, focuses on implementing a new form of "Hospitality" through its proprietary platform and innovative design technologies, moving beyond being a mere means of transportation.
Openness achieved through independent coach doors and a pillarless structure
The most striking change in the GV90 is the structure of its interior space. According to the video, the GV90 applies a world-first "pillarless cabin," providing a sense of openness as if air and light are flowing freely. While the pillarless structure offers an unobstructed view and dramatic sense of space, technical solutions have addressed safety concerns. Genesis designed a crisscross of reinforcing supports hidden inside the doors. When these structures are combined, the entire body functions as a single rigid whole when the doors are closed.
The way the doors open is also innovative. The GV90 adopts "coach doors" where both doors operate completely independently. In particular, it provides a smooth opening and closing experience through a "dual-motion hinge" that sophisticatedly combines sliding and swinging motions. Inside, swiveling seats rotate 180 degrees to create a lounge-like atmosphere. Additionally, a natural wood floor system inspired by traditional Korean Ondol delivers warmth to the interior, providing a cozy visual and tactile experience.
High-performance battery platform and sophisticated driving control technology
The core platform of the vehicle is designed around the most powerful high-capacity battery in Genesis history. Barriers are installed between battery cells to block heat dissipation, and a venting system that discharges gas from the battery has been included to enhance safety. The new PE (Power Electric) system realizes the signature "Dynamic Elegance" of Genesis through an enhanced cooling system and optimized management technology. Hyundai Motor Group described this as the most powerful electric powertrain in Genesis history.
A large number of technologies supporting driving performance have also been deployed. Multi-chamber air suspension adjusts the ride height according to driving conditions to improve performance and stability. Electronically controlled shock absorbers use dual solenoid valves to finely adjust damping force. This allows the vehicle to find the optimal balance between ride comfort and handling stability in real time, completing a dynamic driving feel worthy of a flagship.
25 speakers and safety design featuring the world's first roof airbag
The interior design aims for a combination of technology and art. An audio system consisting of 25 speakers provides orchestral-scale magnitude and clarity, while a 24.6-inch display greets passengers. Jewel-like flourishes fill the interior, visualizing the unique hospitality spirit of Genesis.
In terms of safety features, the "roof airbag," applied for the first time in the world, draws attention. This technology, which protects occupants from above in the event of a vehicle rollover, demonstrates the completeness of safety pursued by the GV90. In addition, a completely newly configured airbag system is applied to protect all occupants, establishing a safe space like a "cocoon" to protect passengers from external dangers. The video stated that through this technical perfection, Genesis is redefining the foundation of the flagship.
