TUCSON reaches 10 million cumulative sales, applying high-difficulty molding technology to realize design
HYUNDAI has revealed the technical capabilities and development process of the 5th generation 'The All-New Tucson', which has surpassed 10 million cumulative sales. The model utilizes advanced molding technology to achieve its "Art of Steel" design language and features enhanced hybrid systems and safety technologies.
HYUNDAI has revealed the technical capabilities and development process of the 5th generation 'The All-New Tucson' in detail. Since its first appearance in 2004, this model has surpassed 10 million cumulative sales as of 2025, capturing the evolution of the TUCSON, which set this record as the first SUV model from HYUNDAI.
10 Million Sales Record and 6 Core Values
According to the details of this event shared by HYUNDAI, the TUCSON has established itself as a core model across global markets, including North America, South America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Africa. Choi Sang-in, the senior researcher in charge of the development project, explained that the reason the TUCSON is loved by customers worldwide is that it pursued multifaceted values such as excellent fuel efficiency, driving pleasure, SUV sturdiness, and daily convenience.
To this end, The All-New Tucson was developed based on six core values. At the center are: ▲Bold Design Premium ▲Next-generation Hybrid System ▲Spatial Product Capability ▲Comfortable and Pleasant Ride ▲Excellent Safety ▲Digital Life. In particular, the user experience was enhanced through the next-generation infotainment system 'Pleos Connecty' and the generative AI agent 'Gleo AI'.
Body Molding Technology that Realized 'Art of Steel' Design
The exterior of The All-New Tucson adopts the 'Art of Steel' design language, which reveals the tension of metal. Choi Tae-uk, the senior researcher, stated that the harmonious proportions of the side and the bold volume of the rear fender emphasize the design, while the H-lighting at the front and the three-dimensional tail lamps at the rear complete a futuristic image. In particular, the XRT model, which specializes in an off-road sensibility, presents a differentiated design with skid plates and wheel arch cladding.
To implement such bold design in a mass-produced vehicle, high-difficulty molding technology was deployed. To bring out the volume and edges of the design, technology that utilizes the steel sheet up to its tensile limit was applied, which was completed through close collaboration between the design, engineering, and molding technology sectors. The clamshell-type hood and the strong volume of the rear fender are the results of this molding technology.
Powertrain and Structure that Improved Driving Performance and Safety
In terms of driving performance, the 1.6 turbo gasoline model secured a maximum output of 193PS, and the model applying the next-generation hybrid system achieved a system maximum output of 245PS and a combined fuel efficiency of 17.4km/ℓ. Additionally, the body and suspension structure were improved, and interior quietness was enhanced by reinforcing acoustic glass and sound-absorbing materials.
Safety specifications were also strengthened. The body structure was reinforced using high-strength materials, and it was designed with the goal of obtaining the highest ratings from global safety assessment agencies by equipping advanced safety technologies such as dual door unlock power and 9 airbags.
