Minion Trio Targets Korean Audience by Visiting Classrooms and Theme Parks

James, Henry, and Edgar, the Minion protagonists of the film 'Minions & Monsters,' have set out to meet Korean audiences directly. To promote the characters, they are following a schedule that includes visiting actual school sites and theme parks in Korea.

On the 10th, the Minion trio visited Seoul School of Performing Arts and Deokseong Girls' High School. Participating in a "School Attack" event, they delivered gifts to students and met them while roaming various parts of the campuses.

The stage of their activities continues at a theme park. From today until the 17th, James, Henry, and Edgar will visit the Lotte World Magic Castle in Jamsil to meet visitors. While at the site, they will take photos with visitors, exchange greetings, and bring the film's worldview to life.

Their activities in Korea began with their arrival at Incheon International Airport last June. After receiving a warm welcome from fans upon arrival, the Minions had a meeting with actor Yoon Kyung-ho through a casting audition. Additionally, reflecting the film's journey to find monsters, they also completed a schedule featuring Haechi, the mascot of Seoul.

According to the real-time reservation data from the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network as of midnight on July 13, 'Minions & Monsters,' scheduled for release on July 15, ranked 4th in reservation rankings with a reservation rate of 4.0%. The number of reserved spectators is 24,198, and the reservation revenue is 255,539,280 KRW. This represents an increase of 5,633 people from the previous day, showing a growth rate of 30.3%. The average reservation ticket price is 10,054 KRW.

Currently, 'Hope,' which opens on July 15, holds the 1st place in theater reservations. 'Hope' is recording a reservation rate of 61.2%, 367,129 reserved spectators, and 4,615,682,780 KRW in reservation revenue. The number of reserved spectators increased by 46,457 (14.5%) compared to the previous day. The average reservation ticket price is 12,572 KRW. The reservation scale of 'Hope' is 2.3 times the combined total of the 2nd place 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' (101,083 people), 3rd place 'Odyssey' (36,916 people), and 4th place 'Minions & Monsters' (24,198 people).

The 2nd place 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' (releasing July 29) recorded a reservation rate of 16.9%, 101,083 reserved spectators, and 1,405,418,050 KRW in reservation revenue. Although the number of reserved spectators decreased by 661 (0.6%) from the previous day, it maintained the 100,000 mark with existing volume. The 3rd place is 'Odyssey,' releasing on August 5. 'Odyssey' recorded a reservation rate of 6.2%, 36,916 reserved spectators, and 648,441,350 KRW in reservation revenue, rising from 5th to 3rd place with an increase of 2,752 (8.1%) reserved spectators compared to the previous day.

Recreating 1920s Hollywood Slapstick

This new work is set in Hollywood during the golden age of silent films in the 1920s. It depicts a farce that unfolds as Minions, who used to follow the greatest villains, jump into film production. James, Henry, and Edgar evolve into slapstick comedy stars, but they face the era's transition with the introduction of sound.

The film is a tribute to silent film masters such as Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton and deals with the process of filmmaking. The production company, Illumination, reveals that their roots lie with the masters of silent film slapstick. In the film, the Minions set out to find the legendary monster 'Irene,' and the story unfolds as Irene, who dreams of dominating humanity, turns Los Angeles into a chaotic mess. The film utilizes the formats of early Hollywood films, such as monster movies and westerns, to address the systems of that time.
