An analysis has emerged stating that the narrative flow and settings shown in the movie 'Revival Man: The Red' take on a unique aspect that is far from conventional movie grammar. Released on September 30, this work is based on a webtoon and stars Koo Kyo-hwan, Shin Seung-ho, Kang Ki-young, Kim Si-a, Kim Sung-ryung, and others. Directed by Baik Jong-yul, this movie deals with incidents surrounding the protagonist's resurrection and human experimentation during its approximately 101-minute runtime.

Resurrection 72 hours after death and drastic physical enhancement

The central setting of the movie is that the protagonist 'Seok-hwan (played by Koo Kyo-hwan)' comes back to life after 72 hours have passed since his death. Seok-hwan is a job seeker, and his character's personality is revealed through conflicts occurring during the interview process and his relationship with his family. In the film, Seok-hwan is murdered by terrorists and abandoned in the mountains, but he opens his eyes again in perfect condition after 3 days have passed. In this process, Seok-hwan's body possesses the characteristic of becoming drastically stronger than before. This physical change is described as a characteristic called 'Red', and the movie uses the process of the protagonist's body being enhanced through repeated deaths as its core driving force.

The corporation 'Noah' performing human experimentation and uncontrolled power

A giant corporation called 'Noah' appears in the work, aiming to create the ultimate human through human enhancement experiments. This corporation operates three types of experimental subjects: 'Red', 'Black (played by Shin Seung-ho)', and 'Blue'. In particular, the process of repeatedly killing and resurrecting experimental subjects to obtain the 'Red' serum is depicted. In the video, it is mentioned that the setting involves the muscle strength of a 'Red' enhanced through experimentation reaching thousands or ten thousand times that of an ordinary human. However, as a narrative feature, it is noted that during the development of the movie, a situation occurs where the experimental subject escapes without any clear devices or weaknesses being presented to control an experimental subject with such powerful strength.

Development where the strangeness of the setting precedes narrative probability

The development method of the movie appears to focus on the uniqueness of the setting itself rather than realistic probability. Scenes such as confronting mercenaries carrying rifles in a hotel in the middle of Seoul, or the way extra-legal organizations operate, contain points that are difficult to accept through general cinematic grammar. In the video, it is mentioned that the gap in the setting is so large that less than 10% of the movie's content makes sense, while 90% of it does not make sense. The film's position is interpreted in that it shares a similar vein with the unique character shown by past works such as 'Sector 7' or 'Real'.
