Director Shin Jae-ho's new film 'I'm Your Man' to be released on YouTube
Director Shin Jae-ho has released a rough cut of his 13th feature film, 'I'm Your Man', for free on YouTube. It is an unconventional move aimed at leaving a record of the creative process.
“Thinking that this work might never see the light of day”
Director Shin Jae-ho has made the bold decision to release his 13th feature film, 'I'm Your Man,' via YouTube instead of a theatrical release. Having steadily built a filmography over 22 years with works such as 'Extraterritoriality,' 'Gate,' 'Mangnae-in: Faceless Killers,' and 'Wanted,' Director Shin's decision is considered a highly unusual case even within the film industry.
Recently, through his social media, Director Shin uploaded the rough cut of his independent feature film 'I'm Your Man,' which finished filming in Busan last fall, to his official YouTube channel. He shared his honest feelings regarding the decision to release the work online for free. "Thinking that this work might never see the light of day, I am releasing it to leave a record of the passion, contemplation, and sincerity I poured into this work as a director," he stated.
It is a radical move rarely seen in the domestic film industry for a director to personally decide to release a film—which was being prepared for theatrical release—entirely for free on an online platform. This move, which embodies the creator's will to share their result directly with the audience, carries more weight than a simple online screening.
A heavy drama completed by a solid cast including Lee Ji-hoon and Moon Hee-kyung
'I'm Your Man' is a work where the story unfolds around the intense emotional performances of the actors and a heavy drama. Lee Ji-hoon, who delivered an impressive performance in the film 'Baeksu Apartment,' takes the lead to guide the delicate emotional lines, while veteran actor Moon Hee-kyung anchors the drama. Additionally, a large number of actors with proven acting skills, such as Kim Ki-bang, Choi Yoon-young, Jung Ho-bin, and Bang Eun-hee, who move between commercial and independent films, joined the cast to increase the density of the drama.
Reactions from audiences who have already encountered the film are pouring in. Some viewers offered praise, saying, "The actors' performances are so excellent that it's highly immersive," or "The chemistry between the actors is so impressive that it's hard to believe it's an independent film." In particular, many opinions noted that the quality of the work is so high that it is a shame it was not released in theaters.
The currently released rough cut of 'I'm Your Man' can be watched for free by anyone through Director Shin Jae-ho's official YouTube channel. Schedules for upcoming special screenings and Guest Visits (GV) will be announced later through Director Shin's official social media and YouTube channel.
