Lee Chang Dong's new film 'Possible Love' invited to Toronto International Film Festival

Director Lee Chang-dong returns with his new film 'Possible Love' eight years after 'Burning'. This work has been officially invited to the Special Presentations section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which will be held in Toronto, Canada, from September 10 to 20. Produced and distributed by Netflix, this film will be unveiled to North American audiences through this film festival.

Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung Gu, Zo In Sung, and Cho Yeo-jeong Join the Cast

Four representative actors of Korean cinema will appear in the film 'Possible Love'. Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung Gu, Zo In Sung, and Cho Yeo-jeong are listed as lead actors. The released first-look still cuts capture Mi-ok (played by Jeon Do-yeon), Ho-seok (played by Sul Kyung Gu), Sang-woo (played by Zo In Sung), and Ye-ji (played by Cho Yeo-jeong) standing on a beach, gazing in different directions.

Director Lee Chang-dong has established himself as a world-class director, directing works such as 'Green Fish' (1997), 'Peppermint Candy' (2000), 'Oasis' (2002), 'Secret Sunshine' (2007), 'Poetry' (2010), and 'Burning' (2018). For this new work, screenwriter Oh Jung-mi, who collaborated with him on 'Burning', co-wrote the script, and Fine House Film is in charge of production.

The Divergent Lives and Desires of Two Couples

The film unfolds as two pairs of people—a laid-off working couple and a documentary filmmaking couple who film them—become intertwined. Meeting through the documentary production process, despite having different life trajectories, they face their respective desires and the hidden sides of their lives during the process of confrontation. The work deals with class differences, marital relationships, and the medium of film.

This work will once again firmly prove his reputation as one of the greatest contemporary film directors."

The Prestige of Toronto Special Presentations

The Special Presentations section is a major category of the Toronto International Film Festival that introduces new works from masters that possess both artistic merit and public appeal. As one of the world's top four film festivals, the Toronto International Film Festival serves as a precursor to the following year's American Academy Awards race every year. Through this section, works such as Bong Joon-ho's 'Parasite' (2019), Park Chan Wook's 'Decision to Leave' (2022) and 'The Handmaiden' (2016), and Kim Jee-woon's 'The Age of Shadows' (2016) have met audiences worldwide. At the 50th event last year, the Netflix film 'Good News' was featured in this section.

Netflix Release and Korean Screening Schedule

The film 'Possible Love' will begin its Korean screening after its North American premiere in Toronto. In Korea, it will be screened in theaters for two weeks, after which it will be released globally through Netflix streaming service.
