"From Job Selection to Balancing Livelihood"... What are the Ministry of Employment and Labor policies helping job seekers solve their worries?
Government support policies designed to address the realistic concerns of young people…
Government support policies designed to address the realistic concerns of young people, such as difficulties in choosing a job and maintaining a livelihood during the job preparation process, were introduced. According to the 'Youth JOB Talk' video released on the Ministry of Employment and Labor YouTube channel, participants shared the hopelessness they feel in different job-seeking situations and checked policy information to respond to them.
"Which job is right for me?" Job exploration and concerns about practical experience
A job seeker dreaming of becoming a marketer stated that they are struggling to find a job that fits their aptitude amidst the diversity of marketing fields such as brand, performance, and CRM. In response, the Ministry of Employment and Labor policy promotion team suggested the 'University Job Plus Center' as an alternative. This center is a policy that supports everything from professional consulting to personal statement and interview preparation, as well as corporate matching.
The policy promotion team explained, "Many people think only university students can use it, but graduates and local youth can also benefit." In particular, for young people who find it difficult to confirm job suitability due to a lack of practical experience, they added that the 'Youth Future Plus Project', where one can receive 1-on-1 training from current professionals or learn job-related competencies, can also be utilized. Through this, it is explained that young people can explore fields that suit them by receiving job training in advance, which previously felt hopeless.
"Balancing job preparation and livelihood" Policies to alleviate economic burden
One participant, who is preparing for employment while working as a freelancer and doing short-term part-time jobs, expressed the economic burden that arises as the job preparation period lengthens. The core issue was the difficulty of continuing both livelihood and studies simultaneously in a situation where it is difficult to rely on parents.
In relation to this, the policy promotion team introduced the 'National Employment Support System'. This system is characterized by helping prepare for employment through 1-on-1 consulting with dedicated counselors and linking it with work experience projects or job-seeking education programs. Furthermore, it was explained that depending on the requirements, one can receive job seeking promotion allowances and job preparation allowances, which helps in creating an environment where one can focus on job preparation. It was also emphasized that through counselors, one can not only share interview schedules but also receive detailed consulting on recruitment information for preferred occupations.
The hopelessness of university students facing graduation and preparing future competencies
A university student facing graduation next year mentioned the pressure of having to respond to rapidly changing technology trends such as AI or data while being in a state of not having decided what to do, comparing themselves to the various career paths (employment, exam preparation, entrepreneurship, etc.) of friends around them. The main concern appeared to be the hopelessness regarding how to build job competencies while lacking specifications.
In the video, participants shared the psychological burdens and realistic constraints experienced during the job preparation process, suggesting that various government youth policies can play a role in filling these gaps. In particular, through a game called 'Should I go to this company or not', the participants formed a consensus by sharing realistic values they will face in the actual employment field, such as micro-managing, work-life balance, and the balance between salary and workload.
