Shin Min-ah: Following 1.52 million views for 'The Eyes', now with 'Remarried Empress'
Shin Min-ah, who drew 1.52 million viewers with the film The Eyes, will return as Navier in the 2026 Disney+ series The Remarried Empress.
Actress Shin Min-ah is expanding her filmography by moving seamlessly between the big screen and OTT platforms. While her recent film 'The Eyes' (directed by Yeom Ji-ho) is currently a box office hit with 1.52 million cumulative admissions, Shin is set to meet viewers in the fall of 2026 with the Disney+ original series 'The Remarried Empress'.
'The Eyes' is a suspense thriller about Seo-jin, a protagonist losing her sight to a genetic disease, who uncovers mysteries surrounding the death of her twin sibling. Shin Min-ah pulled off a dual role, playing the twin sisters Seo-jin and Seo-in. Her performance, which included portraying visual impairment and capturing the subtle nuances between the two characters, has garnered critical acclaim from audiences. The film hit number one at the box office, competing with the Disney animation 'Toy Story 5', and following its official selection for the competition section at the 59th Sitges Film Festival, its international release, including North America, has also been confirmed.
From a dual role in a thriller to a fantasy empress
The momentum built through her film work will carry over to the OTT market in the second half of the year. In the Disney+ original series 'The Remarried Empress', Shin Min-ah takes on the role of Navier, the empress of the Eastern Empire. The series is based on the popular web novel of the same name, which has amassed 2.97 billion cumulative views. The story follows a character who proactively carves out her own destiny even in the face of adversity. Through Navier, who possesses both stunning visuals and elegance, Shin is expected to showcase a strong side that differs from her previous image.
The production team stated that Shin is focusing on delicate emotional acting to bring out the multi-dimensional aspects of the character. They plan to realize the image of an empress who embodies both grace and strength within a fantasy world. This promises a stark contrast to the suspenseful performance seen in 'The Eyes', as she shifts into the romance fantasy genre.
Continued activities following marriage
Shin Min-ah's momentum continues even after her marriage to actor Kim Woo-bin. After a 10-year relationship, the two held their wedding last December at the Shilla Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul. Shin is maintaining her career without any hiatus, moving between films and dramas. Her upcoming projects include the Disney+ original 'The Remarried Empress' and the tvN series 'Gift'.
Currently, the film 'The Eyes' is playing in theaters. 'The Remarried Empress', starring Shin Min-ah, will be released worldwide via Disney+ in the fall of 2026. Shin's versatile career, spanning genres from thriller to romance fantasy, is set to continue through 2026.
