Seo Yoo-jeong: From Failing Lip Trills with 'Goat Sounds' to Successful One-Take Recording

Actress Seo Yoo-jeong has completed the final journey of her vocal lessons. A video released by the YouTube channel 'Yujeong Geurigo Jujeong' captures Seo Yoo-jeong's third and final lesson process conducted at the Morae Gongjang Vocal Academy.

"A beginner making goat sounds"... Lessons that began with failed lip trills

The start of the lesson was not smooth. While attempting lip trills, a basic step to warm up the throat, Seo Yoo-jeong became flustered when her lips would not vibrate properly, asking, "Uh, I can't do it?" As the process of blowing air against the lips to produce sound did not go as planned, the situation became so comical that 'goat sounds' could be heard on site.

During the first class, Seo Yoo-jeong expressed her worries, saying, "I wonder if this song can truly become mine." Even while reading through the lyrics of the song assigned as homework, she struggled to capture the emotion by repeatedly reciting the line, "That moon is so sorrowful." The vocal teacher checked the completion of last week's homework and, while noting that Seo Yoo-jeong had been out of touch to receive comments, pointed out that her understanding of the song had increased.

Successful one-take recording and the image of an "actress who lets herself go"

Upon entering the actual recording studio booth, Seo Yoo-jeong showed a markedly different appearance from before. In the process of checking her changes by singing a song she had previously performed, the teacher evaluated, "Unlike before, it has become natural." Regarding Seo Yoo-jeong, the teacher shared their thoughts, saying, "Because of the weight of being an actress, she could have been sensitive, but it was surprising to see her let herself go and show everything. Thanks to that, I could teach comfortably."

As the full-scale recording began, Seo Yoo-jeong finished the song in a 'one-take' (a method of recording without stopping). The teacher evaluated, "Many celebrities often sing by breaking it down word by word when recording, but for a one-take, it wasn't bad." After finishing the recording, Seo Yoo-jeong appeared emotional inside the booth, saying, "The lyrics are something anyone can empathize with, so tears suddenly came to my eyes."

"If you try, you can do anything"... Chi-maek time and piano performance

After finishing the lesson, Seo Yoo-jeong shared her thoughts during a chi-maek (chicken and beer) time with her group. Seo Yoo-jeong said, "Having my own space inside the booth made me feel slightly like an actress playing the role of a singer," and noted it was such a good experience that she became immersed in emotion and cried. She also drew laughter while sharing an episode with her daughter Song-i, where a phrase in the lyrics was exactly the same.

Finally, Seo Yoo-jeong delivered a message, saying, "I had great fear and tension regarding singing, but I felt that if those around you give you courage and help you gain confidence, everyone can do it," adding, "There is nothing that cannot be done if you try." Subsequently, at the end of the video, she decorated the grand finale of the lessons by showcasing her long-hidden piano playing skills.
