The closer a generation is to retirement, the more clearly they tend to set higher required cash flows for their old age. The most common retirement age was 60, and as the age group increased, the target monthly living expenses also grew larger.

According to the results of a mini-survey conducted by Mirae Asset Investment and Pension TV in August to celebrate surpassing 200,000 subscribers, the average age of respondents was 45. By age group, those in their 40s accounted for the highest proportion at 32%, followed by those in their 30s (29%) and 50s (23%). Those in their 20s were around 6%, those in their 60s were 9%, and those aged 70 and older were about 1%, with those from their 30s to 50s accounting for 84% of all respondents, reflecting high interest in retirement preparation.

60 is the most common retirement goal... Older age groups demand higher cash flow

The most common desired retirement age was 60 at 31%, followed by 65 at 27%. Six out of 10 respondents viewed the age range between 60 and 65 as their retirement timing.

The target monthly cash flow after retirement showed a distinct difference depending on the age group. Around 70% of respondents in their 20s to 40s hoped for an amount of less than 2 million to 4 million won per month. On the other hand, the demand level for those in their 50s and 60s was much higher. The median for those in their 50s was 3.5 million won, and for those in their 60s, it was 4 million won. In particular, among respondents in their 50s and 60s, the proportion of those aiming for a monthly cash flow of 5 million won or more reached 35% and 37%, respectively, which was significantly higher than the younger generations. In the case of those in their 20s and 30s, the proportion hoping for more than 5 million won per month was at the level of 13% and 12%, respectively.

Lee Dong-geun, a manager at Mirae Asset Investment and Pension Center, analyzed, "As retirement approaches, the target amount rises because the burden of realistic costs, such as surging medical expenses, taxes, and health insurance premiums, increases." He continued to emphasize the importance of retirement planning that reflects inflation, stating, "Considering an inflation rate (assuming 2% per year), the current 3 million won per month would need to be approximately 5.4 million won in 30 years to maintain the same standard of living." Compared to the minimum living expense of 2.4 million won and the appropriate living expense of 3.36 million won for a couple presented by the National Data Agency, these survey results showed a similar trend.

"Taxes and health insurance are the scariest enemies"... High demand for practical withdrawal strategies

Practical asset management and tax issues occupied the top spots among the content subscribers hoped would be covered in the future. Analyzing the main feedback, there was high demand for investment philosophies based on macroeconomic analysis and academic research rather than simple market outlooks. In particular, opinions expressing a desire to grasp market trends through interviews with renowned scholars or analysis of research papers were notable.

In particular, the issues of taxes and health insurance premiums arising during the process of securing cash flow after retirement emerged as a core topic. Respondents requested detailed, "pinpoint" information such as the conditions for maintaining health insurance dependent status after retirement and pension withdrawal strategies. Additionally, there were many voices wanting realistic guidelines, such as the actual portfolios and withdrawal cases of retirees categorized by age and asset size. Regarding this, Jeong Hye-won, a senior manager at Mirae Asset Investment and Pension Center, expressed expectations for related content by mentioning recent reports on withdrawal strategies, expert interviews, and preparations for translated books.

Relatively younger generations wanted insights from the perspective of asset allocation and how to utilize various pension products such as ETFs or IRPs, while those approaching retirement showed focused interest in how to efficiently withdraw and use their assets. Meanwhile, subscribers also showed high interest in strengthening communication, such as live broadcasts and Q&A sessions that resolve subscribers' questions beyond one-way information delivery.

"A lighthouse and companion for life"... The meaning of the channel as defined by subscribers

Subscribers defined the channel as a guide for retirement preparation. In response to the question 'What is Investment and Pension TV to me?', respondents used expressions such as 'light in the darkness', 'lighthouse of life', and 'reliable textbook'. This is interpreted as a result reflecting the channel's character of delivering standard and systematic knowledge instead of provocative thumbnails or speculative information.

They also compared it to a 'Sherpa' who climbs the mountain of retirement together or a 'compass' that sets the direction. The keyword that received the most responses was 'a companion who walks together for a lifetime'. This contains the meaning that they trust the channel as a partner that completes the long life cycle before and after retirement together. Lee Dong-geun and Jeong Hye-won expressed their gratitude to the many people who applied for the large-scale event held to celebrate the 200,000 subscriber milestone and expressed their ambition to work toward reaching 300,000 subscribers in the future.
