A voice actor's voice determines the appearance of an in-game character. Gameplay footage of the martial arts game 'Where Winds Meet' shared by Nam Do-hyeong's Blue Club captured a unique customization process where the character's face and atmosphere are automatically generated according to the tone of the voice.
'Voice Actor Optimized' customization where timbre becomes appearance
During the character creation stage of 'Where Winds Meet', voice actor Nam Do-hyeong showcased a feature that utilizes his own timbre and voice recordings. The method involves reading a provided script, which the system then analyzes to automatically create a character that matches the voice. Mentioning his 21-year career as a voice actor, Nam Do-hyeong said he felt "heart-pounding tension" while reading the script for character creation.
The appearance of the generated characters varied significantly depending on changes in timbre. When reading the script with a basic tone, a standard character was created, but when he read lines with a high-pitched, hearty laugh, a character with a manic gaze appeared. Subsequently, when he lowered his voice to be deep and thick, a character with a beard was generated, demonstrating how the texture of the voice directly links to the character's physical traits, such as the gaze and beard.
Exploring the open world of 'Cheongju' and intuitive combat systems
After completing character creation, Nam Do-hyeong continued his open-world exploration centered on 'Cheongju', the game's first region. The scenery of Cheongju implemented in the video showed a harmony of trees and natural landscapes, and Nam Do-hyeong noted the visual elements, remarking that "it is possible to enjoy the life of a Taoist immortal."
Regarding combat and control, an intuitive system was observed. This included movement using lightfoot techniques (gyeonggong), skill usage, and a process of acquiring techniques by imitating the movements of animals to gain enlightenment. In particular, the flow from arrow-based combat to boss battles was set to a relatively low difficulty, showing a structure that is easy for novice users to access.
Animation-like immersion and expectations for Korean dubbing
After finishing his play session, Nam Do-hyeong summarized 'Where Winds Meet' by saying it felt "like watching a fully dubbed animation while reading a solid martial arts novel." He mentioned the charm of the game, which combines open-world freedom with online interaction, emphasizing an immersion similar to console games.
However, it was noted that full Korean dubbing has not yet been applied within the game. Nam Do-hyeong expressed anticipation for future updates, stating, "If domestic users show a lot of love, Korean dubbing will be possible." At the end of the video, information regarding coupon codes that can be used in the game was also provided.
