Kwon Do-woon apologizes for visiting entertainment establishments and claims he was threatened
Trot singer Kwon Do-woon has announced a hiatus from his activities, admitting to attending a drinking session to celebrate his album release. A dispute involving allegations of intimidation with YouTuber Park Woo-shik continues.
Admission of Visiting Entertainment Establishments and Violating Quarantine Guidelines
Trot singer Kwon Do-woon has apologized to the public, admitting to visiting an entertainment establishment and subsequently violating social distancing guidelines. Kwon stated that he visited a pub located in Seoul from around 10 PM on March 31 to around 2 AM on April 1 for a drinking session. The gathering was arranged to celebrate the release of his new album, which was scheduled to be announced at noon on April 1.
Through social media, Kwon expressed, "I am sorry to greet you with such bad news," and stated that he is deeply sorry for causing great disappointment by being revealed to have violated social distancing guidelines as a public figure. He added that he is experiencing significant psychological distress due to this situation.
YouTuber Park Woo-shik's Allegations of Blackmail and Agency's Rebuttal
Along with this apology, Kwon Do-woon raised allegations that he is being blackmailed by YouTuber Park Woo-shik. Kwon explained that on the evening of April 1, he received a contact from Park Woo-shik, an acquaintance, stating, "I received a report from another customer at the establishment in question." He appealed that Park sent messages such as "Be careful since you are a public figure" and "Do not visit entertainment establishments again," which he felt was blackmail.
However, the position of his agency, Mideum Entertainment, is different. The agency claimed that Park Woo-shik did not commit blackmail and asserted that Kwon's claims are false, alleging that Kwon is engaging in noise marketing by using Park Woo-shik to promote his album release. In response, Kwon countered that the agency's statement was a false statement issued under impersonation by Park Woo-shik, and announced that he plans to sue Park Woo-shik for spreading false information and defamation.
Suspension of Activities and Declaration of Self-Reflection
Kwon Do-woon decided to disclose all facts himself before being exposed by others. He clearly stated his intention to comply with investigations and punishments by the authorities, expressing his commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities as a public figure. Furthermore, he apologized to the fans who were disappointed by this incident and officially declared a suspension of musical activities and a period of self-reflection.
Background of Related Individuals
In October 2020, Kwon Do-woon became the first trot singer to come out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Park Woo-shik, identified as the alleged blackmailer, is a person who previously appeared on Mnet's 'Superstar K Season 2' and is currently active as a YouTuber. Park Woo-shik recently filed a complaint after being assaulted by an anti-fan, and the Jongno Police Station in Seoul transferred the perpetrator to the prosecution on the 29th of last month.
