Lee Jung-eun, Gong Hyo-jin, Park So Dam, and Lee Yeon: A revenge drama awaited for 8 years
The film 'The Journey to Gyeong-ju', which has been recognized for its artistic quality by winning Audience Awards at international film festivals, will meet domestic audiences on August 26.
Lee Jung-eun, Gong Hyo-jin, Park So Dam, and Lee Yeon unite as a family to execute a desperate revenge. The film 'The Journey to Gyeong-ju' (directed by Kim Mi-jo, produced by Studio High-Five, distributed by Lotte Entertainment) tells the story of four mother and daughters who have endured eight years for their youngest daughter, 'Gyeong-ju,' who never returned after a school trip. They finally begin their journey toward revenge through a decided 'killing trip.'
An original genre piece that first caught the attention of international film festivals
Before meeting domestic audiences, this work first revealed its presence on the world stage. During its world premiere at the 45th Hawaii International Film Festival, it was evaluated locally for combining dark humor with emotional density. Subsequently, at the 24th Florence Korean Film Festival, it captured the hearts of local audiences and critics, winning the Audience Award with praise for presenting a fresh grammar that twisted the existing formulas of revenge films.
Genre variation is also a characteristic. The attempt to organically mix black comedy and family drama based on a thriller foundation gave a fresh shock to international critics. The core lies in showing an unpredictable development while dealing with the familiar subject of revenge. This momentum continued to the 30th Fantasia International Film Festival, North America's largest genre film festival. At this festival, which opened on July 16, Asian Programming Director Nicolas Archambault said, "It is one of the most impressive works in this year's lineup." He added, "Not only the emotional line that freely moves between laughter, horror, and emotion, but all elements including the actors' performances, directing, and screenplay show amazing perfection."
Following the invitation to Barcelona, domestic release on August 26
The film's journey continues. News has also been delivered regarding its invitation to the 6th Barcelona Korean Film Festival to be held on September 2. Barcelona programmer Gloria Fernandez defined this work as "an unpredictable dark humor thriller that allows no compromise to the audience amidst intertwined love, loss, and revenge." The reason why film festivals around the world are sending invitations lies in its completeness, possessing both the acting skills of the actors and genre-based fun.
'The Journey to Gyeong-ju,' which garnered attention solely from its cast of Lee Jung-eun, Gong Hyo-jin, Park So Dam, and Lee Yeon, was co-produced by Euphoria ENT and distributed by Lotte Entertainment. This film, which has had its artistic quality verified abroad, will be released in theaters nationwide on August 26.
