The 'Royalty' title film designed by Baek Kooyoung: What is the 'Hidden Piece' capturing the individuality of 10 choreographers?

Choreographer Baek Kooyoung personally explained the design process of the title sequence film that contains the identity of the program.

In a video recently released through the YouTube channel The CHOOM, Baek Kooyoung provided commentary on the title sequence film for 'Royalty', the title track of Mnet and tvN's 'SDF'. This video is composed of Baek Kooyoung, as the final director, detailing his intentions regarding the film's composition and choreography arrangement.

'Super Director' concept compressing the individuality of 10 directors

Baek Kooyoung defined the overall concept of this mission as 'Super Saiyan' or 'Super Director'. He explained that he intended to capture the process of the 10 directors appealing their different personalities and charms while competing and building friendships within a short film.

Regarding the intro composition at the beginning of the video, it was mentioned that Baek Kooyoung's persistence was reflected. To create a direction where characters pass by in succession, similar to a profiling scene of secret agents in a movie, he composed the intro so that the individuals appear. Additionally, he designed it to draw attention through a direction that provides contrast by featuring a Cybertruck.

In terms of choreography composition, it is revealed that he made efforts to reflect the characteristics of each director. Baek Kooyoung stated that he borrowed parts from Nine's Draft B that well showcase Baby Joon's strengths in waacking and control lines. He explained the process of taking the choreography, saying, "Nine readily gave permission." Furthermore, he coordinated so that each director's style, such as Win-gyu's simple movements and impact and the fun elements of the chorus choreography, would be melted into the overall film.

The confrontation structure of winners and losers and the placement of the 'Hidden Piece'

The middle part of the film's composition includes a strategic placement reflecting the results of the mission. Baek Kooyoung divided the 5 male directors and 5 female directors in the second verse, and specifically visualized the confrontation structure between winners and losers.

Baek Kooyoung stated, "The five led by Min-jun in the center are the winners who won in Signature 400, and the five led by Paeswi are the losers," noting that he set up a composition where they each face their opponents. In particular, he explained that considering the tense confrontation between Min-jun and Haessi, which was 4 against 4 during the interim check vote, placing Min-jun in the center to hold the balance was the 'hidden piece' of this film.

In addition, it can be seen that he worked to organically connect the various drafts of the directors into the flow of the film, such as attempting a direction that makes the picture larger by borrowing a composition from Kasper's draft where they stay still without dancing. Baek Kooyoung expressed satisfaction with the directors' capabilities, saying, "When the players (choreographers) do well, it feels good from the maker's perspective."
