Ahn Sung-hoon tearfully called Song Ga-in his benefactor during a shared stage appearance, crediting her encouragement with helping him return to singing after he had stopped and was running a business.

A video released by TV CHOSUN MUSIC captured the singers exchanging heartfelt words after 11 years of supporting each other through the struggles of their early careers. Ahn Sung-hoon and Song Ga-in, who earned the “Jin” titles on Mr. Trot and Miss Trot, respectively, shared a special performance and conversation.

Even when Ahn Sung-hoon had stopped singing, Song Ga-in repeatedly urged him to continue. “You should sing. Don’t give up,” she told him.

With his eyes welling up, Ahn Sung-hoon told Song Ga-in, “You’re my older sister, my parents, and my benefactor.” He said her encouragement had helped him get back on his feet when he was ready to abandon singing, making their present, dreamlike moment possible.

A promise made during difficult early years

The two first met and began their activities in 2012. They recalled traveling across the country on express buses and trains without managers, helping each other through the demands of those years.

Ahn Sung-hoon carried Song Ga-in’s bags, while Song Ga-in helped with Ahn Sung-hoon’s makeup. Waiting-room conditions were poor, and when Ahn Sung-hoon was not in a waiting room, he sometimes changed clothes in a restroom. They carried each other’s belongings and relied on one another throughout those difficulties.

During that period, they promised that once they became successful, they would put on a stage where they could sing together in style.

Gratitude between two “Jin” titleholders

Song Ga-in said she had continued to support Ahn Sung-hoon in her heart even when he was no longer singing, feeling that his talent would be a shame to lose. Both expressed pride in the other’s success and in each having earned a “Jin” title.

Song Ga-in also thanked Ahn Sung-hoon for remembering her and remaining by her side to help over the 11 years, giving her the courage to try again. Ahn Sung-hoon’s expression of gratitude toward Song Ga-in added to the emotional resonance of their shared appearance.

After exchanging their thanks, the singers continued with individual songs. Song Ga-in performed “Yongdusan Elegy,” showcasing her distinctive vocal ability. Ahn Sung-hoon followed with “Benefactor,” a song that evoked the person who had helped him get back on his feet and deepened the performance’s lingering emotional impact.
