Senior troupe brings local legends to life through life experience

Members of the Haechun Yurangdan troupe, aged in their 70s, are gaining recognition for performing local legends and educational content that has earned them awards in South Chungcheong Province. Following their stage shows, the group also conducts CPR training to teach audiences how to perform chest compressions at a rate of 100–120 times per minute.

The passion of seniors bringing community stories to the stage is drawing attention. The program "Trot Kitchen: Traveling Dinner Show" on TV CHOSUN JOY showcased the Haechun Yurangdan, a group that continues to perform based on local legends and educational content.

Group uniforms become a symbol of village unity through local legend performances

The backs of the uniforms worn by the Haechun Yurangdan members are engraved with their village names. These group uniforms were created to foster unity among village residents, and the grandmothers enjoy wearing them whenever there are events or performances. They primarily perform shows containing local legends or educational content aimed at elementary school students.

A key feature of the performances lies in the vivid voices of the grandmothers. The shows are conducted based on content recorded directly by the grandmothers' own voices, which effectively conveys the local sentiments and old tales to the audience. These activities have gained recognition for their value within the community beyond being a mere hobby. The group has established itself as a representative activity for the region, winning grand prizes from organizations such as resident autonomy committees and receiving awards in South Chungcheong Province representing Dangjin.

"True leads come from experience"... The meaning of the stage delivered by Haechun Yurangdan

At the performance site, pleasant conversations took place regarding the ages of the members. The members, ranging from their 70s to mid-70s, approach the stage calling one another "lead actors." As the saying goes, "True leads come from experience," the life experiences accumulated over many years serve as a core element that adds depth to the performances.

The troupe's performances deliver both enjoyment and practical information to the audience. Following the stage, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training was conducted to prepare for emergency situations. The significance of the performance was expanded by introducing specific methods, ranging from checking for responsiveness and calling 119 to checking breathing and the location and depth (5cm) and rate (100–120 times per minute) of chest compressions.
