Oh Yoona Confesses to Giving Up Gym Workouts Due to Knee Pain
Actress Oh Yoona, who once feared exercising due to knee pain, is returning to lower body workouts through rehabilitation exercises.
Actress Oh Yoona has opened up about the struggles of having to stop her regular weight training due to knee pain. She revealed that her knee condition has recently worsened, causing pain during exercise and even making her fearful of movements that require bending her knees.
Oh Yoona explained that as her knee pain intensified, she gave up her previous weightlifting routine and instead focused on Pilates to maintain a toned physique. She shared that while she expected her knee condition to deteriorate following her workouts last year, the pain onset was faster than anticipated, causing significant difficulty. Consequently, she decided to seek out a specialized rehabilitation center to find new ways to exercise while protecting her knees.
Rehabilitation Exercises Using Hip Joints Instead of Knees
Rehabilitation expert trainer Choi Soo-in identified diminished hip function as one of the causes of Oh Yoona's knee pain. She explained that when knee pain occurs, the gluteal muscles fail to function properly, which can lead to excessive strain being transferred to the knees. To address this, she advised that a rehabilitation stage is necessary to learn hip joint patterns instead of knee patterns.
Specific exercises included weight-bearing movements where the weight is shifted to the front leg while holding a bent position, as well as single-leg deadlifts. The single-leg deadlift is a movement that involves balancing on one leg while engaging the posterior muscles, making it effective for strengthening the posterior chain by stimulating the hamstrings. During the process, Oh Yoona focused on keeping her knee stable while pushing her hips back to feel the muscle engagement.
"Exercise is a Promise to Myself": The Secret to Strict Self-Management
When asked about the secret to her consistent physique management, Oh Yoona defined exercise as both a "habit" and a "promise to herself." She replied that although there are days when she doesn't feel like working out, she makes an effort not to cancel her scheduled classes and visits the center habitually. She added that for group classes in particular, she strives to be punctual so as not to inconvenience others.
While jokingly confessing that she is someone who sometimes struggles to keep promises to herself, Oh Yoona emphasized that one must avoid laziness and take action to become beautiful. She showed her strong will for self-management by offering sharp advice to those who procrastinate on exercising, telling them to keep their promises.
