It has recently come to light that comedian Kim Kyu-won provided heartfelt care to a student with a congenital muscular disorder during his time serving as a social service agent. The son of the informant, Ms. A, began using a wheelchair in the fourth grade due to a congenital muscular disease. While there were several social service agents at the school at the time, some avoided caring for the child or showed reluctance in assisting with restroom needs, causing emotional distress to both the child and his mother. Kim Kyu-won was different. He listened sincerely to the child, building an emotional bond and creating such a warm environment that the child looked forward to going to school.
Meticulous care that even covered the child's mistakes
Kim's response when the child had an accident in the school restroom was particularly extraordinary. Ms. A recalled that Kim personally helped clean up after the child, hand-washed the soiled underwear, dried them in the sun, and then neatly folded them into a plastic bag to return to her. Kim was so considerate that he even expressed apologies to the mother, saying he felt bad that the child's accident had caused her anxiety.
Kim's dedication continued until the end of his service, leading to a promise. On the day he left his post, he shared rice cakes he had prepared and said his goodbyes through tears. At the time, Kim promised to attend the child's elementary school graduation, but since the entire family tested positive for COVID-19, he was unable to meet them in person. Instead, keeping his promise in mind, he left a bouquet of flowers and a gift in front of the child's house.
The weight of a promise kept until middle school graduation
Years later, when the child entered middle school, Kim Kyu-won kept his promise once again. Ms. A revealed that Kim adjusted his schedule to personally visit the school for the child's middle school graduation. Despite his busy career in entertainment, his commitment to honoring a past connection led the parent to express her gratitude, stating, "To our family, he is the most grateful person of all, even above any celebrity."
The child's former homeroom teacher, Mr. B, also supported Kim's good deeds through a comment. Mr. B testified that even though Kim was in his early days of service, he always waited to help the child navigate steep hills that were difficult for a wheelchair, and even accompanied the child on walks around the playground.
